SFA does tend to rise up in games against ACU - in just about every sport. It will be Homecoming for them. Most important, Colby Carthel used to coach here at ACU and he was really interested in the ACU job when Adam Dorrel got the position. Colby is a master motivator and he will have them really fired up for ACU -- he always does. It is very fortunate that ACU had a bye week to prepare Peyton to take over the #1 QB role. Peyton has shown a lot of moxie this season, running the ball exceedingly well, but will he be freed to run as often when he is the only QB with college experience? Will he be held in check more and be expected to stay in the pocket more? Watching Peyton in the lead role for the final half 1.5 weeks ago reminds me that he is very inconsistent with his passing -- he will make a perfect pass and then follow it up with a pass that misses badly -- badly underthrown or overthrown.
I think the elements are stacked against ACU this weekend -- I predict a SFA win, 31-10.

We have issues stopping the run and don't seem to make good adjustments in the second half. We have had some bust in coverage over the past few weeks and not sure that is going to change. NOT a big fan of the DC and feel like we won't improve until someone else is in his office with a different defense. I feel like ACU fans and boosters have an opportunity to help the coaches instead of discuss the need for different ones. Look at Texas, LSU, and Clemson. Texas has the same players with new coaches and are getting the same results as the past years. LSU and Clemson have the same successful coaches with different players and they are struggling this year. It comes down to getting the best talent. My sons have been part of programs ranging from Division II to the richest power 5 program in the state, and ACU is blessed to have good men as their coaches. With the transfer portal and the new NIL rules, the boosters can help by giving the coaches something more to offer when recruiting. In order to get the best players, ACU must offer more than the other schools. That can come in the form of NIL contracts, post graduation jobs, etc. No matter the coach, you must find a way to get the best players. I was a D1 player and i can guarantee you those "good men" would be gone if richer opportunities came calling. That is how this works. It is a performance based business and my comment was/is based simply on what I have seen on the field. As to your comment on recruiting, the ACU boosters have given the coaches the best stadium, locker rooms, uniforms and weight room in the conference in my opinion. They have given the coaches the tools they need to be competitive in enticing recruits. Reality is, the most enticing thing to offer a recruit is a chance to compete for a championship every year. This is why programs hoist championship banners and have trophy cases out front for everyone to see. The coaches job is to seek out and sign the players they feel will help them win. Everyone loves a winner. Sounds simple, but its not.

Most high school players that go on to play at colleges are used to being one of the best players on their team. When they get to college teams, the competition gets fierce and some players do not see a path for being a starter or for increased playing time. They often want to go where their chances are higher to start or get playing time. This makes the transfer portal so popular these days.

ACU has great facilities, but so do many other programs. All I am saying is that today's recruiting is not like it was 5 years ago or even 1 year ago. The school that can figure out a way to be different in what they can offer will be more appealing to players. The new rules have opened many doors and if a school doesn't choose to change and take advantage of it, they will be left behind.

Back in 2008 ACU closed the season with a trip to #24 ranked SFA. I sat with Josh Bloom's dad and Parker Mekenzie's dad. Both had great games as did De'Andre Brown (3 TD's) and Nick Grau (3 FG's). The Cats took down the Jacks 35-33 when SFA missed a chippy FG at the last of the game. Can we do it again? Would be nice!

Your memory on 13 years ago is phenominal and yes a repeat of that victory would be nice.

Yes, my memory of 13 years ago is so much better than my memory of yesterday. You ought to try me for 46 years ago when Cattitude and I were tearing up the Dallas area softball leagues. By the way, my teammate Dennis Richardson (ACU Hall of Famer) turned 80 last week. Hard to believe and he still looks like he could run a 9.3 hundred. trackfan, Dennis has a couple of grandsons running Xcountry. Better start recruiting.

Not as much in FCS, but the Power 5 team coaches do not get too much of a honeymoon after being hired or even having ultimate success. Coach Ed Orgeron at LSU was fired almost immediately after a win against a top 20 opponent , Florida and less than two years after going undefeated and winning the National Championship with Joe Burrow as quarterback.
