This is always a big game for us although I doubt that SFA has it on their big game list. Coming off a bye week should help us heal up and be game ready. Plus, Peyton gets two weeks of reps with the first team offense. The Lumberjacks are coming home after a fairly easy win at Dixie State. Similar to ACU, SFA is winning when they should but haven’t taken out any “good” teams. Their passing game is not as good as UCA and their running game is at least on par with EKU. It comes down to the SFA passing game vs the ACU running game. As usual, turnovers will tell the tale.
Im going way, way out to the end of the limb and take ACU in a close game. Nothing suggests this but I gotta feeling. 24-17

I think the Mansell factor will help out ACU this week, 21-17 ACU

SFA's receivers scare me. I just don't think our DBs will be able to keep up. Sadly predicting a SFA win. 35-17.

I watched SFA play a great game against Sam Houston that they should have won. I have to think SFA will be too much for ACU to beat at their home.

But for “controllable” mistakes, ACU beats SFA @ GLP. This year, the bye week makes a huge difference, and ACU steals one in The Nac, just like Joe and the Hoopsters did last spring. Go Wildcats!! Beat !!

We have issues stopping the run and don't seem to make good adjustments in the second half. We have had some bust in coverage over the past few weeks and not sure that is going to change. NOT a big fan of the DC and feel like we won't improve until someone else is in his office with a different defense.

SFA is always tough, especially at their house. I think we can slow the running game down, but Gipson will eat us up if he gets behind us. If we double team him, it will leave others open. Will we go man to man or soft zone? If we go soft zone, we almost always give up a lot of passing yards and conversions. IF we can win in the trenches and avoid penalties, we have a chance. I am not sure if we have come up with a good enough game plan though. We will make a few plays that SFA will adjust to. Can we actually keep them on their heels enough?? I am still going with SFA on this one.
***Forgot to mention the turnovers we had against them last year. I am not sure how much passing they will let Mansell do, but he will need to make smart decisions. What I want to see is for us to develop a good passing scheme that works for him, and that doesn't mean side to side....***

NOT a big fan of the DC and feel like we won't improve until someone else is in his office with a different defense. I feel like ACU fans and boosters have an opportunity to help the coaches instead of discuss the need for different ones. Look at Texas, LSU, and Clemson. Texas has the same players with new coaches and are getting the same results as the past years. LSU and Clemson have the same successful coaches with different players and they are struggling this year. It comes down to getting the best talent. My sons have been part of programs ranging from Division II to the richest power 5 program in the state, and ACU is blessed to have good men as their coaches. With the transfer portal and the new NIL rules, the boosters can help by giving the coaches something more to offer when recruiting. In order to get the best players, ACU must offer more than the other schools. That can come in the form of NIL contracts, post graduation jobs, etc. No matter the coach, you must find a way to get the best players.

The bye-week may have given us time to find more answers in pass defense. SFA will run play-action to open up the field. And when Trae Self takes off on QB runs can we limit big plays? It will be a long afternoon if we have breakdowns. Offensively, their front 7 will be hard to run against early in the game. I'm not sure we can take them on strength on strength. But not unlike the EKU game, as the game wears on, our running will find some success. The way things have been of late, it seems everything has to be perfect to sustain drives. (practical play-calling, execution, no holding penalties, zero turnovers, etc.) While I'd like this to be a close battle, I'm with bucfan on this one. 35-17 SFA
