With Mansell switching to safety do we anticipate that increasing the strength of our defensive backfield? Has he been running with them at all in the past 4 years?

Agree 100%. Patterson sounding like a used car salesmen. No offense to any used car salesmen out there.

I was surprised by the announcement but don't think it is a terrible decision. Mansell is a leader and an athlete. It is good to find a place to put those kinds of guys.

Does anyone know who’s idea this was? Maybe Peyton wanted to see the field for his final year if we wasn’t going to be starting QB.

Agree 100%. Patterson sounding like a used car salesmen. No offense to any used car salesmen out there. Payton is a obvious leader. I love Payton’s grit and tenacity running the ball. With that being said, his passing rating is ok..,but his decision throwing the ball in key moments is oftentimes suspect as reflected in his touchdown to interceptions ratio. 2021Passing stats: YDS 1,073 TD-5 INT-8 Payton is a hammer running the ball. I can only imagine him bringing the BOOM as a Safety. I hope he can make the adjustment to safety and be a key defensive contributor. Best of luck to Payton…

I love Peyton's leadership abilities and he is obviously well-respected by the team, being named captain. But, I thought that the whole plan for the new staff was to improve at every position and it appears they have done just that. I DO think that the move of Peyton to safety is unorthodox, but I agree with Brain 100% that this move could provide huge dividends if it works -- dividends that simply would not occur if Peyton is sitting the bench as the 3rd team QB. If you look back at Ethan Long's stats with Arizona State, you see that he played quite a few games for the Sun Devils, but he received most of his game time playing at positions other than QB and when he did play QB, he ran the ball, so he might well be the "change of pace" QB. As far as the used-car comment, I guess I missed that part of the interview. I WAS surprised that the comment about Peyton moving to safety seemed to be almost as an aside -- like it was already common knowledge. But, there was a tremendous amount of REAL info provided during the interview. Between the position previews and interviews, we have been provided a huge trove of info and I appreciate it.

I know Peyton a bit. I can guarantee that he asked for the move. I think he will begin playing a lot on special teams.
