This is an interesting discussion, and one that I have been wondering about since a lot of this realignment stuff began. If FBS and FCS doesn't exist in its current form in the future, what does that mean? I have been seeing the gap widen between P5 and G5 schools for several months now. The question in my mind has been what does that mean for FCS programs? How about FCS programs that are scratching to get in a lower level FBS conference to increase their football revenue and exposure. If that market is changing to the point where that whole set of divisions is aligned differently to begin with, is their effort in vain? For programs like ACU that are investing in their football program to be competitive, does it give us better options than chasing an older version of FBS? This is only one discussion, but a good one. I am not saying there won't be tiers involved between those left out of the super-conferences. But if streaming, and other large media outlets, move to a conference or team structure, what happens? In that, I see an advantage that ACU has because of what we have invested into our broadcasting abilities. Can a team like ACU be as competitive in marketing itself even if it doesn't go to a larger conference or move up to what is currently considered FBS level? It opens up lots of questions and possibilities, especially if the WAC continues down its current non-football trajectory.

I count 4 remaining members in the Big South that field football. Are they adding anyone?

I have been wondering if another football only FCS conference will be the solution for a couple of conferences. The WAC, ASUN and Big South are all trying to figure out what to do with the football teams they have. The WAC and ASUN have their alliance, for now. Does that piece merge into something separate like the MVFC? Do all 3 form a football only conference or does each conference continue to fight to bring in their own programs?

Good grief! This is a cluster bomb (to put it nicely).

One of the big questions remains. What happens as the big money programs leave everyone else behind and the gap closes between the G5 and FCS? NMSU takes a chance to join a conference in hopes that it can work its way into the new super-conference level, or at least increase their media income. I am not sure that will happen. JMU and SHSU move from FCS in similar hopes. How much more of a shot do they have than NMSU? At this point, just because you make the jump to FBS, doesn't mean it makes much more for your school, or improves exposure to a highly measurable degree. Maybe it's a matter of every degree makes a difference. Who knows? I almost feel for NDSU, who have dominated the FCS world and built themselves up to actually make a bigger difference at the next level.
