Buisson finishes -2 on his last 6 holes for a 75 (+3). The 3 doubles in the middle of his round killed his score. Hopefully his score will not be a counter. Diomede is our only player still on the course and he is +2 with 3 holes to go.

Diomede finishes with a double bogey for a 76 so Buisson's 75 counts. We finish with -6 for the day and -5 thru 2 rounds. We are currently in 6th alone but Utah Tech could catch us. Huge rounds by Zane Heusel (66) and Charlie Jackson (69) and a great back nine for Brian Comegys (-3) for a 72. Our double bogeys (5 today and 1 yesterday) keep us from challenging for the conference title but I'm seeing some encouraging signs for our long term success. Let's have a good round tomorrow. Today we had 23 birdies and 1 eagle.

Thanks Bogey. Sounds like we are improving over past tourneys. Maybe the course is a bit easier.

We finish in 8th place with a -4 round today. Didn't finish real well but overall I think we can be proud. Buisson finished with a 69 and Comegys a 70. Heusel and Jackson shot 73's (Hmm, that doesn't add up). They'll correct either the scores or Golfstat. Really proud of Comegys for coming in and subbing for Hoyeau and shooting a 72-70. (They changed our score to -3 which I was getting.) I saw Charlie Jackson play at Pinehurst 2 years ago and thought he'd be a contributor. Glad that he seems to finally be coming into his own. I really think that we are going to be contenders in lots of tourneys over the next few years. Just a little improvement by each player and that assumes everyone stays. The way the roster stands right now, we don't lose anyone to graduation or eligibility. I know we add 2 HS players who will be in the mix after a while. Don't know if coach will go after any grad transfers or not. The sky is the limit for this program. Our freshmen (Buisson, Hoyeau, Comegys, and Grigsby) have the ability to be special, especially if Grigsby gets back on his game.

Although the roster lists Heusel as a junior he is listed as a senior on the acusports write up. Maybe he will consider a covid year.

Looking forward to seeing how next years golf team shakes out. On the golf site we don't lose anyone from this team. Mavsman says at least one player is leaving. So far we have two HS recruits who seem to have high ceilings (Defriend won his regional tourney this year and plays for state this week. Cooper won the 5A championship last year playing on Lake Highlands 2nd team). So, a roster of 10 or will we add another player (or two)? Last year coach Shaw really tried to get a quality player from a power 5 program to give experience to his young squad. Do we still need that? Time will tell. We have a solid base for a very good team and if Heusel comes back (this was a down year for him) it could be an exciting year. I was thrilled with how Charlie Jackson and Brian Comegys finished the year. And the two freshman from France-Buisson and Hoyeau performed better than expected, both were inconsistent at times but showed they could play at a high level. 2023 was a learning year. I hope we learned our lessons well.

Preston Defriend shot a 68 in round 1 of the state championship. He is 2 shots back going into tomorrow's final round.

Defriend had a bad 2nd day. Finished well back. Hope our two recruits have great summers. Still waiting to hear who comes back for next year. Excited about the women's team that Bennett is putting together.

A little men's golf info. We are losing one of our freshmen. He is leaving ACU (and golf) to pursue a career in youth ministry. But we have signed a grad transfer from an SEC school for some maturity with our young team. Coach Shaw is after other transfers but thinks we are not high on their list. He is very encouraged with the core of our team now (Buisson, Hoyeau and Comegys) and hopes Zane will have a great season.
