Some golf news as the US Am winds down. Coach Tom Shaw played in the qualifier in Midland but failed to qualify. Logan Diomede attempted to qualify at Trinity Forest in Dallas but failed to qualify. Charlie Jackson tried and succeeded in qualifying at Oak Tree in Edmond, OK shooting rounds of 68-68. He is the 1st Wildcat in probably 10 years to actually get to play in the US Am. He did not make the match play portion of the tourney.

I think Francisco Osio qualified to stroke play a year ago.

I think you are right. He qualified in Mexico. I remember now. Thanks.

With everything going on, we haven't mentioned the Men's golf team who opened again at the LA Tech Jim River's Tourney. Last year we ended up in 14th place with a +15 total of 879. This year we end up in 18th place but with a slightly better +13 score of 877. Hopefully we can continue to lower our team totals. Wish we could have placed a little higher but the season is just beginning.

Still not much from the golf team. So far, after 3 tournaments, we have placed 18th, 10th and 15th. At this point last year we had placed 14th, 8th and 9th. I don't know any details.

Karson G's score was the best in this last tourney and he's a first year player. I've watched him on the practice range and his game should fit just about any kind of course -- great ball flight. Of course results almost always boil down to the short game of lobbing, chipping and putting, but this young man seems pretty solid all around. I expected our experienced players to have matured even more going into this year and hopefully that will happen. I want the team to perform like the conference champion they are. Those early results are disappointing overall. Golf is a funny game so hopefully our getting out of bed the wrong way is behind us and we start playing to our potential.

It's that time when I start thinking about the year ending and a new year of golf beginning. I checked out our newcomers and they might be really special. Some of our foreign players will likely become real contributors as well. We currently have two from France, one from the UK and another from South Africa, and a Dutchman. I found this video about the younger version of the golfer from the Netherlands. Very entertaining.

I believe that Charlie Roper has left the program. Saw that he wasn't going to play so he and coach Shaw decided it was best for him to find a better fit. Roper loved the ACU experience. Also, two HS seniors have signed who are really good players--one that has been announced from Lubbock and another unannounced from Dallas, I think.
Coach Bennett told me that he is on point to sign several national ranked young women for ladies golf to join the two who have already signed. Good news for both programs.

It has been a long wait until we finally have a ladies team -- I am excited to see it unfolding. It always bothered me that the other two universities in Abilene had ladies golf and ACU did not.

Just listened to coach Shaw on Baylor coach Mike McGraws podcast that came across on my twitter acct. If you haven't listened to it, you should. It was outstanding. Learned alot about Tom Shaw's life and journey into golf. What an outstanding man and coach and beacon for ACU golf. Someone who is tech savvy might put the interview on this thread. It is called Better than I found it, an Apple podcast.

Preston Cooper from Dallas Highland Park officially announced on ACU Sports today. Won 5A championship last year as well as AJGA Jordan Speith tourney. Could be a good one.
