Very disappointing for sure. Have our best day and still fall into last place.

Spring tourney #3 begins tomorrow at Grand Canyon Golf Course in Phoenix. As I guessed after last weeks last place finish we are taking two different golfers this week. Charlie Jackson and Thomas Buisson replace Zane Heusel and Grigsby, so our lineup will be Diomede, Hoyeau, Comegys, Jackson and Buisson. I fully expect Heusel to be our #1 player the rest of the year but after his performance last week he really needed to be replaced this week. Let's see what happens. Desert golf is different.

Surprised but the change is understandable. I hope it results in improvement. Desert Golf can indeed be different. I can remember areas where it was forbidden to even walk to retrieve a ball, much less hit it. Most courses only have OB around the perimeter of the course but some have strips inside the normal OB.

1st nine holes completed of 36 to be played today. Currently the Cats are in 13th place (out of 16 schools) with a +3 total. Thomas Buisson is -1, and Brian Comegys and Logan Diomede are even. Charlie Jackson is +5 with a triple and Greg Hoyeau is +4 with a triple.

I know money and history are part of it, but its crazy how North Dakota St and South Dakota St can be better at golf than we are. And maybe they aren’t, but just seeing them ahead of us in the leaderboard is interesting to me. They likely can’t play a round of golf in respectable weather for over half of the year.

Hoyeau and Jackson have both come back with 2 birdies each, so our current scores are Buisson -1, Diomede Even, Comegys is +1, Hoyeau +2 and Jackson +4. As a team we are in 10th place at +2. About 5 holes left for each golfer except Diomede who has 8 holes left to score.

2 holes to go in the 1st round. Both scores will count to hold our place at +4 over. We are currently in 12th place but only 4 shots out of 7th. Should be our goal to get to 7th by the end of the day and possibly make inroads into 6th. Buisson finishes with a -1 (70). Diomede was Even (71). Jackson finished at +5 (76). Comegys finished at +3 (74) as did Hoyeau, so +5 in 1st round. 7th place is still at Even par, so 5 shots out of 7th. We need an under par 2nd round which has typically been our best round.

Several other teams did not finish the 1st round well so after 3 holes of the 2nd round we are still +5 but only 2 shots out of 7th. Jackson hasn't started off well in the 2nd round and is +3 but all the others are around par with Hoyeau at -2.

Not a good close to 2nd round. Shot 10 shots worse than 1st round. Coach Shaw said on acusports.com that we had a bad day on the greens. He also said this was an easy course and we should be playing (scoring) better. After 3 holes of 3rd round we are Even par as a team. I see this final round today as a clue to who will become our top 4 guys. Heusel will be our top player when all is said and done. Looks like Buisson and Hoyeau are playing themselves onto the top 4. Diomede needs a good round to solidify his spot. Then the battle will be for the 5th spot. I thought Jackson might be ready but so far, no. Lewis has had some good rounds, so maybe. Grigsby will have to be much more consistent and cut down on big holes. Right now no one is really safe.

Great last round. -3 and we were -9 for a while on the back nine. A round to build on.

So we finish 10th... still a bit weak, but at least a better finishing day.

Golf begins in the a.m. at the All-American hosted by U of H. Surprise 5 players for ACU in that for the 2nd tourney Zane Heusel is not playing. We're even taking a 6th, non scoring player. Our 5 are Buisson, Hoyeau, Diomede, Comegys and Lewis. Our 6th man is Charlie Jackson. Big tourney field with some quality, highly ranked teams.
