The complaint is not the choice of music or the atmosphere, it was the timing or lack of it. It looked like whoever was running things in the booth was not paying attention to what was happening on the field. I hope this will be worked out in the future. I have been to many games at Ohio State, UT, Arizona, and of course ACU. I love ACU and its traditions, and I think they are as good as the other schools mentioned. However, those other schools realize a football or basketball game is a show which needs direction of all of its components, no less than theater, or in our case Sing Song and the Homecoming musical. We are getting there. Go Cats!

In defense of the "crew" in the pressbox running the scoreboard, music, etc. THe whole concept of the game experience at ACU has been reimagined. Plus, there are new people working the boards with a new script. So, there were problems of timing...perhaps volume at various times. I liked the music, too. I think that fewer decibals wouldn't impact the game experience while being less intrusive. I think it will be better this week.

I think the committee did a great job in finding ideas to enhance the experience. I LOVED the occasional classic tunes thrown in for us geezers. There were bugs in the execution, but, as you say, hopefullly those will be worked out this week.

A lot of people always think of a football team or coaches having some bugs to work out after the first week, but it's everyone. Referee's (Although they just never seem to get the bug worked out all year long, always making the wrong calls ), fans, gameday staff, TV broadcast crew, in-game entertainment crew, etc., because no matter what you do to be prepared in practicing of anything, you can't fully replicate an actual game to get timings down just right.

Speaking of bugs, Teams are often said to make the most progress between gams 1 &2. What bugs are you hoping to see worked out this week. Shoring up our offensive line? From 0-3 to 3-0 FG? QB gaining more rhythm with receivers? Early lapses in pass coverage worked out? Other?

Unfortunately I was in Dallas for a confernce on Thursday so I missed the game. In general, I always look for defensive improvements above all else between weeks 1 and 2. It always seems like defense is the part that comes together the slowest for most teams (Unless your Georgia beating the hell out of Oregon), so I'd say that would be a big one. Blair will get his FG situation worked out I think. He's a solid kicker and will bounce back.

The constant, annoying, aggravating, loud, repulsive "music" that someone thinks needs to be blared through the speakers between every play (and at other times as well) is such a negative that it literally makes me want to leave the game to get away from it. Whose idea is this? Who thinks it serves some positive purpose? Who wants it? Who likes it? We don't deserve to be bombarded with this crap. I can't speak for anyone else but, for me, I don't make a donation, buy season tickets, and drive 200 miles to every home game to be subjected to auduble torture. I come to support and encourage the guys, support the school, enjoy the fellowship with other fans and the parents of some of the players, and watch a football game. I hope that someone can get this stopped. Tell me you were born before the war without telling me you were born before the war.

I’d usually agree with you, except in our case the case of a new staff, lots of new faces in the lineup including a QB who hasn’t played in 3-4 years and never at the college level, the defense seems farther along. I’m most worried about the OL.

By the way, there was a noticeable buzz in the crowd when Swett Caroline started. Unfortunately, the song had to be turned off before the crowd singalong part started. I hope they do that earlier in a break. I’d also suggest YMCA with a “Dance Cam” (should it be Choreography Cam) on the student section. Both those songs are multi-generational.

Don't want to be controversial, but I like the festive atmosphere at the games, I just don't like the announcers talking over the player's snap count. Maybe a decibel or two less volume would be good. I grew up listening to and playing classical music so I don't need hearing aids... well, except for this favorite:

I have remained silent on this until now. Game atmosphere is NOT about alums ONLY. It is also for current students, potential future students and current student athletes. The younger generation likes this type of atmosphere and so it will continue. If we alums think games are about what we want, then I don't know to tell your other than you will be disappointed, time and time again.
As far as the pa announcer talking while the offensive is under center, some of that can be corrected. As a former ACU football pa announcer and one that does it for other sports, I have had that happen to me as well. Sometimes the spotters getting you the information have to go faster in getting the information to you Sometimes you have to quicken your pace of talking, but not in a way that seems too hurried. If, and we don't officially know this, a false start was committed due to the pa announcer talking, the offense will need to do a better job of focusing more. If they cannot do that at home, then they will have more trouble on the road.

Am really insterested to see how things are done at Missouri. They play in a somewhat respectable conference. Especially interested to observe the student section re: attendance, how into it that they are, whether they stay until the end of the game, etc. Of course, this not being a big time game for them will no doubt have an affect on all of this.

Getting our students to stay until the end will take a lot more than audio/visuals, but they were engaged last week. Winning will help, but not sure that even winning will make them stay until the final whistle.

Do people really come to a football game to hear loud "music" after every play? Someone would have to prove that to me. From experience I can assure that UT, Arkansas, Texas A & M, LSU, Ole Miss, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, Florida State, Clemson, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Iowa, Oklahoma, USC, etc. don't need it. Neither do all of the professional teams. They have been filing huge stadiums for decades without it. Some people like the game of football. Others couldn't care less. As for the students, if they like it so much, why don't they come to hear it? Has anyone looked over to the student section from the beginning until the end of the games. It darn sure doesn't keep those that do come there. I just don't get it and it obviously ain't working. I personally know of some adults who leave the games early because they have had all of this that they can stand. I would bet that not one single person who reads this blog is influenced in any way to come the games by this constant noise. Maybe it even keeps the crowd from getting more involved in the game and cheering for the team. Probably not. After all, other teams have fans, ACU has observers. You have either never been to a professional and/or game at the above mentioned schools, or you weren't paying attention. These schools and professional teams have music playing on the speakers at any dead time in the action. At least the games I have been to have. Again, as others have said, it's all about timing, and they will get better. Agree, they could turn it down a bit and still have the same effect. On another, note, with PVAM bringing their band, I hope Big Purple does more than stand and play during their portion of halftime this week. However, all that being said, I'll still go because I am supporting the 'Cats and the staff and I want to see our teams to "fight, fight and win this game the Wildcat way!"
