In my opinion the best chances for good scoring opportunities are #'s 4, 5, and 9 on the front and holes #'s 15, 16, and 17 on the back. Watch what teams do on those 6 holes and you'll have a good feel for how teams will finish.

Quick update. The men are in a tie for 4th at -8. Wichita State leads at -14. Not sure whether they are finished or not. They shot -6 this morning.

I'm back from my terrible day of golf (but a beautiful day) to see that our guys are holding up well. -2 in the 1st round and so far, -7 in the 2nd round. Zane Heusel is tied at the top of the leaderboard at -9 for the day. We are 6th as a team in a pretty strong field. Wichita State has made a run and are leading the tourney at -15 with Oklahoma State at -12. If we can end strong we'd be in good shape for a push tomorrow. with 5 holes to go today, all our guys are E or better (the 4 scorers). Zane at -5, Buisson at -1, Comegys -1, and Hoyeau at E. Charley Jackson who had a 69 in his 1st round is at +2 for the 2nd round.

Oklahoma St has -0- scores posted for their #'s 1 and 2 players. I'm afraid when they get posted OSU will be way out in front. As it stands right now, we got another birdie to go -11 for the tourney but Rice got 3 birdies to go to -15. They are in the "posted" lead.

As I suspected, when OSU had the scores of their top 2 players posted they went from -13 to -21 and 1st place. Wichita State finished well also and are in 2nd place at -20. The Cats finish at -10 and are in 5th place. Zane Heusel finishes at -9 (68-67) and is tied with 3 others for the top score of the day. A solis 2nd round by the team at -8. Comegys rebounded with a 70. Buisson shot 71 and Hoyeau a 72. Jackson shot 74. We need a great round tomorrow but certainly was a good day today.

Looking at the stats for the day the Cats had a really unusual day. We led the field in par 3 scoring (-5), were 2nd in par 5 scoring at -15 but way down the list on par 4 scoring at +17. If you'll remember at our last tourney we were at the top of the field in par 4 scoring but bad on the par 3's and par 5's. Today exactly opposite and the par 5's at Sand Creek Station are difficult. Will be interesting to see what we do tomorrow.

I think one of the guys for ACU had two eagles today or if I am reading the golfstat correctly.

Yes. Zane had 2 eagles and Jackson also had one. Interesting tidbit: #16 green at Sand Creek Station was modeled after the famous "Road Hole"(#17) green at St. Andrews. Jackson and Heusel had an eagle there today.

We are paired today with Rio Grande Valley. They are 3 shots ahead of us and look to be worthy competitors at conference, so a really good pairing. I don't particularly like where we start and finish. Brian starts on hole #2 which was the 16th easiest hole yesterday (par 5, 600 yds) and ends on hole #1, which was the hardest hole (par 4, 470 yds). Zane and Thomas start on the par 3 #3 (178 yds, 6th hardest yesterday), and Greg and Charlie start on the par 5, #4 (601 yds). We've got to play them all, as they say. The par 5's played easier than I would have suspected, so I'm betting the wind was not from the south.

Guys have rebounded a bit and are now trying to reel in UTRGV. Behind them by 2 shots with 9 holes to go. Zane is -2 for the day (and -11 for the tourney) and T-2, but 3 shots behind OSU's Rayhan thomas (-14).

Woops. We just slid from 6th to 9th place with 3 bogeys. The next 3 holes will determine our place in the torurney.

Not to be today. We are sliding down the leaderboard scorewise. We are in 8th with just a few holes to go. 6th is not out of reach but we'd have to really score better. Looking at the scores across the board I'm guessing the wind is up. I'm also guessing that they put the pin on #16 on the top tier of the green and shots to the back just have to be a hair off to go down the slope and be OB or have a very difficult chip. For our guys who don't know how to play a difficult hole safely, that's a double waiting to happen.

On a positive note, Zane seems to be playing up to his immense potential and Charlie Jackson seems to have played himself into the scoring five for the immediate future. I'm guessing that Trenton Johnson and Preston Cooper will be part of the trip to New Mexico.
