No thread yet, so I thought I'd start one about the Homecoming game. 3 p.m. Kickoff.
EKU is 3-3 and 1-1 in UAC play. The defeated West Georgia in Richmond on 9/14, 26-7. They lost at Southern Utah last week, 42-21. The Colonels have wins over non-conference Morehead State (42-13) and Robert Morris (31-7), and losses to Mississippi State (56-7) and Western Ky (31-0) in the first two weeks of the season.
Overall, the Colonels are averaging 21.17 points per game while allowing 26. They are averaging 169.3 yards on the ground and 193.67 yards through the air for an average of 363.0 yards per game of total offense.
Joshua Carter leads the squad with 96 carries for 468 yards and five touchdowns. Brayden Latham is second with 67 carries for 311 yards and a score. Matt Morrissey is 102-169 passing with two interceptions. He has thrown for 1,150 yards and eight touchdowns. He averages 191.7 yards per game. Dequan Stanley leads the team with 19 receptions for 249 yards and four TDs. Marcus Calwise, Jr. (17-192) and Jakob Dixon (13-125) are second and third, respectively.
The defense is allowing 373.2 yards of total yardage each outing, including 155.0 ypg on the ground and 218.17 ypg in the air. Braden Sullivan leads the team with 44 total tackles. He is a starting linebacker, and he has no tackles for loss, which might lead one to think the running game either gets to the next level often, or they leave the middle open for short passes? Maddox Marcellus is second with 41 tackles, including one TFL for minus-five yards. Jaheim Ward leads the team with three TFL for minus-seven yards. The defense has 17 TFL on the season, including just six sacks. The Colonels do have three INTs, 21 PBUs, 13 hurries and five forced fumbles (3 recoveries).
EKU's kicker, Patrick Nations, was named the conference special teams POW after hitting two FGs from 34 and 47. The second FG was his 50th career kick. He set a school record with the 50 kicks, and he is nine points away from breaking the program record of kicking points (285).
Against West Georgia, EKU gained 88 yards on 37 carries and threw for 277 yards. ACU ran for 202 yards on 41 attempts and passed for 297 yards.
This will be just the second meeting between the two schools. EKU won in Richmond on 10/9/21, 30-15.
