I understand why we don't announce commits before signing day. For one thing, we might pick up a higher rated player whose commitment to another school falls through at the last minute...or the reverse. Also, I think ACU likes the big event on signing day. It sure got a lot of attention last year. I went to the presser and it was really fun and exciting. When I asked Ken Collums about the transfers a week before the semester started he was perfectly happy to talk about them. They just want to wait and announce with one big bang.
I love Racine's enthusiasm. He could have been frustrated that other offers didn't come but if he was, he sure didn't show it.

Coastal Carolina announced 4 transfers today in addition to the 3 already announced (at least there is an article in the local newspapers about their decision to come to CCU). The headliner is Ray Lewis' son transferring from Miami. They also got 2 transfers from Kent St (coaching change?). CCU finished #5 in the final poll after giving North Dakota St all they wanted in the quarterfinals. They will be loaded next year.

I am thrilled with Racine ' s signing. He certainly could be a missing piece to add to our receiving corp. I love the height and add in 4.4 speed. He could be a good one.

Thanks wildcatter. I hope that Edmonson will be a force in the middle for us. Adding the 2 transfers certainly helps our depth and gives the youngsters time to really develop. I don't know how hard Trent Andrews has worked in the off season but he says on twitter that he's ready to play football. We'll have good size with the transfers and the guys coming back, I hope our speed is enhanced too.

I was looking at Kalin Sadler's stats on the web. Looks like the kid is still growing. Several sources list him at 5'9", an article before the year started listed him at 5'11" and his 2014 HUDL listing is 6'. Also his track times really got better from last year to this with a 100 meter time dropping about a half sec.(from 11.44 to 10.86) and 200 meter time over 1 second. This might really be a kid to recruit. What's the word on he and Patterson from Lawton.

Looks like Rishaad Wimbley (Sr)-Looked much more effective off the edge. If we have enough depth inside, I could see him as a starter at DE. Josh Bloom (Jr)- the demands of his major cut into practice/playing time last year. From what his dad said, his major won't require as much time this year LaMarcus Allen (So)-Played exceptionally well for a freshman. Big things ahead. Travaughn Moore (So)-He was a real force before injuries took him to the sidelines. Concussions may affect his status. Trent Andrews (R-Fr)-No idea how he has progressed but seems motivated. Will be interesting to watch. And the new guys: Hafoka Olie (So). Good size and quickness. Started last year at Tyler and I could see him moving into a starting role here. Dewan Edmondson (R-So). Quick and appears strong. Should help out right away. Possible position change: Devondrick Meadows (R-Fr) Recruited as a DE but others have mentioned that he has bulked up and may move inside. I feel really good about this position. Both the transfers look like they can help right away and we had decent depth to begin with....

I guess the feeling that there are enough football players in Texas (and Okla) and so we shouldn't spend recruiting $$ outside that area is wise thinking but I've just come from living in Wichita, KS where Wichita State was (with emphasis on "was") a baseball powerhouse for many years. Recently the Shockers can't even win conference or in state games vs Kansas and KState (programs they used to dominate). The consistent argument was that Gene Stephenson (HOF college coach--recently replaced) only recruited his immediate Kansas-Oklahoma area. That may be a bit shallow reasoning but it does have a lot of truth in it. The program became so successful that many big name recruits signed with WSU only to sign pro contracts later and never get to school. Since the remaider of his recruits came mostly from Kansas (chiefly Wichita area where baseball is strong) and Oklahoma he was left to play players who had lots of growth potential but not much "star" potential. ACU needs to have it's name out nationally, maybe not with big recruiting $$ but somehow, to stay competitive. FWIW

As an add on to my argument--didn't Oscar just say that Fresno St. (a California school in a talent rich state) was bringing in mostly Texas recruits. Hmmm.

As an add on to my argument--didn't Oscar just say that Fresno St. (a California school in a talent rich state) was bringing in mostly Texas recruits. Hmmm. I am guessing Fresno has more money for recruiting than us. A school with a limited budget has to make decisions about allocation of resources and potential return on investment. Since the vast majority of kids want to stay near their home to go to college, it makes sense to spend most of our money close to home imo. However, there are certainly exceptions. like that we recruited IMG, for example. IMG has players from all over te country who are there to develop their academic and mostly their football skills. Since their players have already demonstrated a willingness to go away to go to school, why not recruit them? Also, we had some kids from Georgia and the Southeast on our radar this year, which made sense because we played two games in the region. Certainly kids who indicate they are looking for a Christ-centered education should be on our radar. Some schools recruit successfully nationally based on reputation and religion. Notre Dame and BYU come to mind. Maybe it will work for us too. It just seems we are more likely to have success by focusing our efforts closer to home. I amn frequently wrong though, so take that fwiw.

This weekend, there will be 20+ recruits on campus. Based on how many of those commit will determine whether or not another recruiting weekend is needed.
Many of you have asked about the guys from Lawton. Patterson is looking at much bigger D1 schools. Sadler is in the mix, but not at the top of the list.
As of right now, we have 5 total commits. Prince OLB/S, Racine WR, Olie DT, Edmonson Jr. DT and Laws OG.
3 recruits that should be here this weekend are- LaMarquis Jefferson RB/OLB (though they like him more at OLB), RB Marcalas Johnson from Arp and OT Kendall Jennings. Johnson is a new name, yet has offers from Colorado St and New Mexico. Listed at 5-9 190 with a 4.42 40.
I think we should be hearing something soon on Mabry and Osborn. They will be at S. Illinois this weekend, which appears to be our main competition for them at the moment.

Sounds great MAVSMAN. 20+ is a really good number. Hope the enthusiasm at the ACU/SFA basketball game is catching and the prospects of joining a rising program speaks to these guys. Good things are gonna happen.

Both Prince and Jefferson are about 5'10" 185-190lbs. Are we recruiting these guys at LB or safety? No doubt they would have speed, but they will need to fight off blocks and may be a bit light in the britches. Jennings is interesting but at 6'1" he fits a profile for DT, and not O-lineman. Collums likes our OL tall.
Johnson has some wheels.
Any other names for the weekend? Looks like the coaches may extend 8-10 offers this weekend and keep others on back burner until those with offers confirm there decisions one way or another.
Going to be an exciting few weeks.
