Just saw the article on recruiting that was posted on ACUsports.com in the last few minutes. The article acknowledges that chances of getting Codey Funk back next year are exceedingly slim. It also notes the players who will NOT be back: offensive lineman Cole Baughman (concussions), fullback Sam Lawlis (concussions), fullback Will Weathers (knee injuries), running back Randy Gober (transfer), defensive lineman Trent Andrews (transfer), and tight end Hunter Griffith (concussions). I don't know that there are any surprises here - I think all of these had been noted on this board already.
There is also some really interesting talk about where there are holess to fill. It is a very informative post on ACUsports.com

I see from Coach Thrash that we have 2 wide receivers on campus today. On another recruiting front, saw an article today on Clemson recruiting. They employ 3 full time persons and 20 student assistants in their recruiting department with one responsibility (of many, I suppose): to monitor and respond to potential recruits on social media. To my knowledge we don't even have recruiting coordinator. One of many difference between Clemson and ACU, and the world of big-time FBS athletics and FCS.

From a really good article on ACU Sports about recruiting for 2016 Biggest areas of need • Defensive end: The Wildcats return only three players (Dylan Douglass, Devondric Meadows and A.J. Tolbert) and will be looking to add four players to the roster. Collums said the Wildcats will be looking for "at least one and probably two" transfers at defensive end. • Wide receivers: The Wildcats lost seniors Cedric Gilbert, Monte Green-Avery, Jonathan Epps and Cade Stone and return just one player (Carl Whitley) who caught more than 20 passes, and Whitley won't go through spring training after suffering a torn ACL in the Wildcats' Nov. 14 home game against Southeastern Louisiana. Collums said the Wildcats will be looking for three receivers during the recruiting season, including one transfer. • Fullback / H-back / Tight end: Cody Ennis (tight end) and Liam Flowers (fullback) are the only players returning and Flowers missed time last season with various injuries. Collums said the Wildcats will sign two full backs and two tight ends. Other areas of need • Defensive Tackle (3) • Safety (2) • Outside linebacker (2) • Offensive line (2) • Running back (1) • Quarterback (1) • Cornerback (1)
The article also confirms Cody Funk will not be eligible next year.

Other interesting tidbits from the article:
-there are 54 scholarship names listed as moving on to the spring. These are obviously not all full scholarship kids - in fact, I would guess that probably around 35-40 are full scholarship and for the sake of conjecture, the other 14-19 are half schollies. That leaves the team with something like 43-47 scholarships committed and that may be on the high side.
-There are some players who got playing time and could well move onto some form of partial scholarship next year - Mitchell Cantwell and Danny Burke played in every game. Mason Hite played in quite a few games, primarily due to a huge number of injuries at the FB position. We have talked about Andy Valladolid ad nauseum on this board. He missed this entire year due to injury, but impressed last spring.
-Interesting to note in the list of players above who are mentioned as having left to transfer or injury, Cedric Dale is not mentioned at all (while both Randy Gober and Trent Andrews are mentioned as transferring). I guess they decided not to mention someone leaving due a sorry attitude.
-Both Damian Howard and Tryce prince are listed at OLB - Damian started several games at safety this past year. Looks like these two are the latest Lynn Grady-style OLB/safety types

Damian Howard from Safety to OLB.
I like hearing they will be getting help at DE. Our leader in sacks last year had 2. That is really poor.

I think one of my biggest disappointments of the entire season was AJ Tolbert. I really thought he would have a breakout year, but he actually played less frequently as the season progressed. I still think that Dylan Douglass will be a big-timer at end as well. And, Devondrick is still learning the game (he only played football his senior year of HS) and he had to learn 2 positions last year. There is still definite potential at end, but there is not depth at all and even with the potential, we got very, very little push off the ends all year in 2015.

We have offered Logan Carter from Henrietta. Logan is a 6'4 235 TE. I absolutely loved watching his tape. The first two minutes of his highlights are of him blocking. Very strong and powerful kid.
Other notes- Veasy, WR from Golden West JUCO signed with Cal.
We have cooled a bit on Garrison Mitchell, WR/CB from Blinn. He is still in play, but the interest is not as strong.

With the midterm transfer signing period opening yesterday, does anyone know if we have actually gotten in a NLI yet? I know in the past, like most colleges, ACU has not announced the signing of mid-term additions until the primary signing period in early February. However, in this day of twitter, I wondered if anyone has seen a twitter announcement of any additions.

A few thoughts:
1. It is a good thing in my opinion that the twins are coming in late. They are certainly not ready to play in the fall so coming in at mid year gives them time in spring practice and the weight room. Also saves scholarships for 2016 and pushes them to 2017. However, I still think there is a chance they never show up.
2. I count a minimum of 21 recruits this year including transfers assuming the staff can find the right guys. Off to a good start with HS commits.
3. How long 'till February?
