A one year extension is not a vote of confidence. It's a message.

So the consensus is that every player that signs for a college team signs because they expect to have a chance at the postseason. Sam Houston St had a great team, but that was the first southland team to make it to a super regional. I'm not buying the fact that we didn't win more than one conference game because of the fact that we couldn't recruit players to come play here because we weren't eligible for the CWS. This whole discussion dismisses the fact that we consistently lost player after player that came for one year and left. This discussion also omits the fact that we have probably one of the nicest facilities in the conference. Softball players decided to join the program, women's basketball has brought in recruits, basketball has done a 180 since our first year of d1 transition...but baseball gets a pass because 'recruits slammed the door' on us for not being postseason eligible. Not buying it anymore. We swept Creighton and were there some posters hot to trot on our statistics. Then we lost every other game and it was injuries. Now the seasons over and it's the D1 transition. Not a consensus. I agree with you.

My take is that Bonneau got a one year reprieve based on his length of service, his past success, and, yes, the amount of family financial support for the program. It seems clear to me that he is in effect on probation with a clear expectation that we will win more than one conference game next year..

I'm not giving them a pass for only conference win. I'm also not saying that losing players after one year is great or that now that we can say we are playing for the playoffs will make us an instant contender for a regional title. I am saying that it has to help with the talk when you walk into someone's living room. Yes, other sports got recruits beforehand. Other sports have been competitive already. My point was that this will hopefully help baseball and other sports that are still on their way. I know when talking to Golding, he was excited about it as well.
Yes, I believe Bonneau was helped by financial backers and his long-term service. Will it save him in the future? Probably not. Does there need to be turnaround? Definitely so! Will it happen this year? I don't know. What I do know is they can play for Omaha. Will they get there? Well...as you say SHSU was the first SLC team to make it to a regional. That doesn't mean we can't. Maybe we will be the second. Who knows? But let's get behind our boys and show them we are rooting for them to succeed. Injuries were a problem. I'm sure there are other problems we will never know about.
We have a fresh, clean slate. Let's encourage and move forward. Go Wildcats!

I genuinely like Britt and hope he keeps his job. But he needs at least a .500 conference record, I think.

Sam Houston State was the first SLC school to play in a super regional. They've played in several regionals.

So, my sources are telling me that the roster is being overhauled and several younger players had scholly's taken away. If what I was told is true, then I'm extremely disappointed how one young man found out about things.
