ACU is back home this week vs DII Western New Mexico. Again, this will be no slouch DII school. They currently sit at 2-1 after defeating Western Oregon and are playing very good football. I think they will test our secondary. We still have a tendency to get beat over the top at times, and then drop back to a soft zone coverage and get thrown on short. So far, WNMU has 248 rushing yards to their opponents 429. They have 816 passing yards to their opponents 625. Will we lose our 3 game winning streak against them? I don't think so but we need to stay focused and continue our 1-0 mentality game by game. If we can continue our get better each day and each game mentality we should be fine. We just can't overlook anyone. I think we will get good pass rush. Can our offense use the game to finally develop a rhythm?

I agree, we can't overlook them, but I do not see a 2020 repeat of Angelo St. I believe we have too much talent to lose to a DII school at home. New Mexico St is currently rated #91 in Division II. Angelo St for reference is currently rated #3.

I also think we have a completely different mindset and focus right now. If we can just continue to see the improvements in our offense, or even some of our pass coverage. I do think our OL did much better on Saturday. It would be nice to see us to continue to progress there as well.

We need to dominate in all 3 phases of this game. I would love to see a score of 50+-60+ by us and hold them to 10 or under. I think our defense will definitely hold them down. Can our offense finally put large numbers on the board? Do we get more defensive points?

Yes, we should win by 30+ points but we have not yet seen coach Patterson's approach to a blow out. Will we see second and third team quarterbacks? I think we should if it is a big victory, they need the snaps. This game is hopefully one in which we strike early and often then can avoid injuries to front liners and learn something from the next level of players. But, as always, I do not like to see a team turn off its offense or hold down a score. That can backfire and create momentum diasters.

Coaches Award to ACU coaches last week for spotting Mizzou three touchdowns with punt coverage personnel and pass defense calls on all three plays respectively….week before award went to Bubba of PVAM for second half non adjustments..strictly from a rookie perspective of course.

I hope that our players remember the famous quote frpom Darrell Royal about being complacent when a huge favorite: "...just remember, there ain't no such thing as horse that can't be rode or a man that can't be throwed." I would be concerned with winning the game rather than what someone thinks the score might be. Might want to talk to Jimbo about that.

We are still undefeated at home and we may be favored for the last two home games, also. Coach Patterson has a goal to go undefeated at home and that would be a great accomplishment, after the last few seasons.

Looking at the game notes, I noticed that Western New Mexico has 3 seniors in their starting offensive line, and both their DEs are seniors. That represents a group that has some game experience. I also noticed that while the Mustang LB core has good size (two starters in their 230s), ACU has an enormous size advantage at the line of scrimmage on offense, much more than our fateful game with Angelo State.
The Mustang's offense has struggled to run the ball in previous games, and that won't get any easier on Saturday. Their QB completes about 55% of his throws and has seven ints in 130 attempts.
What I'm expecting to see: A live ACU running game that generates multiple big plays. What I'm hoping to see: the Wildcat secondary step up with some pass breakups and forced turnovers.

I am wondering if we will get too see Ethan Long at QB? He had a good off season apparently and might need some gameday experience. Regardless, I would like to see us rank up more passing yards (300 yards would be nice) and get a little more unpredictable on first down. Defensively, it is hard to play much better except for the breakdown plays we seem to see every game -- long runs, returns, and passes that seem improbable but somehow find us out of position or off guard.

Won't be at the game tomorrow night, but have gotten our tickets to a couple who were planning on attending and who were very grateful to get the tix, so the seats will not be empty.
I am thrilled that ACU did so well against Mizzou. It appears that KP has been keeping the focus on the current game rather well and playing a D2 school right after an SEC school will be a good test of how well the team can keep its focus. I do think it is interesting that we are 31.5 point favorites, yet we have scored 31 points yet in any game. I would love to see a 45-14 game or something like that. I agree with rc that I would like to see some of Ethan Long -- I saw him in person last night and the guy is big. Also hope to see Mansell get a lot of playing time in the defensive backfield.
