I am hearing Colby Carthel's name come up a lot in conversations. I will be surprised if he isn't in the mix. Not that he will be hired or will be first choice. Just that he will probably get close attention. I have not heard a single community college or NFL assistant coach mentioned. This surprises me. UCA has had great success under a former community college coach. I don't know why exactly, I just expected a couple of juco coaches to be on the list. Guys like: tvccsports.com/sports/fball/coaches/Brad_Smiley?view=bio

Smiley's resume is impressive but of course he can't be a candidate because he made his name as a JC coach. I don't really know why but I find it very hard to like a guy "like" Kendall Briles, whose over the top opinion of himself (won't go where I'm not paid a million) just grates. I like a guy like Joe Moglia at Coastal Carolina who resigned the presidency of TD Ameritrade because he loved football. Salary at CCU is rumored to be $175k. Alright, he is still CEO but it's the attitude. I don't know if I like the "stepping stone" argument either. I'd like someone who wants to build a dynasty and stay, as hard as that is to believe about Abilene.

Jumping from a JUCO coordinator to an FCS head coach is too big and requires completely different skill sets. Jumping from a JUCO HC to an FCS HC is much more feasible. Also, Moglia is not the CEO. He resigned that position. He is the Chairman of the Board.

Moglia, chairman of the Board--just another of those pesky facts, everybody else gets wrong. Can't you ever read "intent" into a statement, instead of having to prove you know more?

Does anyone know who is on the Head Coach search committee? I am curious to know which stakeholder groups are represented--alumni, students, faculty, staff, football lettermen, others?

A slight deviation: Liberty U's Athletic Director abruptly resigned today. Holding my breath and hoping Liberty does not come after Lee. Lee is a perfect fit at a Christian university and Liberty is bigger and wealthier than ACU. If they can pay their FB coach 750k (with perks) they can pay enough to attract any AD they want.

Well that would certainly throw a slight kink into things.

Lots of sentiment in favor of trying to keep Kendall to run the Baylor offense if Les winds up in Waco. That would kill whatever slim chance we had with Kendall. At this point we would have a better shot at Art than Kendall.

Makes you wonder if conversations had already taken place? Still, that is encouraging if they are quality interviews.
