Makes you wonder if conversations had already taken place? Still, that is encouraging if they are quality interviews. Makes me wonder if this has been in the works for awhile. New coaching staff. New stadium. D1 eligible. Clean slate.

On a related note, Liberty and Coastal Carolina are playing on ESPN News right now. On a teal field.

Nothing but the best in MB (I mean Conway - don't want to run afoul of our resident Pharisee . Chadwick is CCU'S 8th QB of the year.

Is it sad that we are creating side notes on other teams/games? Houston making Louisville look bad 10-0 in the 1st...

On a related note, Liberty and Coastal Carolina are playing on ESPN News right now. On a teal field. Forget one of Liberty's assistants. The HC might well soon be available. Liberty fans are not happy with mediocre results by the highest paid coach in FCS. Turner Gill anyone? Not for his current 750k salary, of course.

87, I think it is likely that the decision to replace Collums was made several weeks before the end of the season. There were lots of complaints after the player cussed Collums out on the sideline with no apparent consequences. It drove home for some the point that discipline and structure were missing and much needed. I didn't hear it but a lot of people did. Lee probably started making discrete inquiries shortly after that. Remember he still had the names given to him by senior staff last year when Collums was looking at a move to Arizona State. And he probably asked the search firm to identify additional options.
By the time the actual decision was firmed up and announced, he was no doubt several steps ahead in the recruitment process.
Bogey raised the question of why we didn't just let Collums go last year if there was dissatisfaction. I didn't hear much noise about replacing him last year. Our 3-8 record was not what any one hoped for, but we had so many injuries and so little depth because of scholarship limitations that the record was understandable, and we could look for better things ahead when we were healthier and nearer the scholarship limit. It was only when it became apparent during the season that we were not getting better that rumblings grew louder.

Not enough search gossip going on so let's see if this livens things up a bit.
71 year old Steve Spurrier just started following Lee De Leon on Twitter. The only other recent follow by Spurrier is the AD a Georgia State who just fired their coach. Could he be bored with retirement and looking for one last gig? Or more likely pushing one of his former coaches or players for a position? Whatever, it may mean our hire comes from waaaay outside our current thinking.
And you thought Kendall Briles was a long shot? LOL.

It was only when it became apparent during the season that we were not getting better that rumblings grew louder. That's understandable especially if the player(s) were not undisciplined. I figured the discipline might have taken place later but I agree it should have happened right then and there. The fact that the player cussed him out on the sidelines is an indication the player felt like there might not be repercussions or didn't care about them. As for Gill, I loved watching him play and he has an impressive resume. Also a Fort Worth guy. Not sure about his affordability or his religious beliefs. The more I think about possible candidates the more I realize how Coach C was so much what you'd want in a coach.

More likely the old ball coach is advocating for someone else. Some other interesting names that just started following Lee as well, but none quite as interesting as Spurrier. Lee Grimes OL coach at LSU (May soon be out of a job when LSU fills the HC job). Victor Santa Cruz, HC at Azusa Pacific (another Christian school, and D2 playoff participant) Blane McCorkle, OL coach at Richmond (FCS Top 10 school). Formerly at Liberty, so is comfortable in a Christian college environment. i have no idea why any of these guys followed Lee or if we are interested in them. Just adding some new life to the thread.

One of his sons is currently at OU and the other at South Carolina. The son at OU has had a lot of coaching experience at OU and South Carolina but is currently in an off the field analyst position and may want a coaching gig.....Who knows the Head Ball Coach might come along to coach QB's as part of a package deal. here's Jr's coaching resume, which is pretty impressive in its own right--OU, Arizona, South Carolina a coach. www.gamecocksonline.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/steve_spurrier_jr_748773.html

When I go to Steve Spurrier's verified account (@stevespurrieruf) he does not appear to be following De Leon. twitter.com/SteveSpurrierUF/following
