Did Joe P. play against SFA last season? Not that he’s as stout as Kensmil, but, believe his presence will be noticed. Pleasant, Kohl and Gayman both played well in the first matchup last year. In the second Joe didn’t play, but Kohl and Gayman picked up their game to cover. We have a four man big rotation that lets us keep two strong bigs on the court at all times. It’s going to be a heck of a battle. Thanks for the reminder. Forgot to mention our 4th big, Airion Simmons. Yes, it oughta be fun!

Howdy. A Jacks fan here. Ive been reading your forum for years now. It’s really the only other enjoyable forum in the SLC. I guess we’ll see if the WAC is any better. I’ve come to really enjoy our matchups as your team has consistently has been on a steady upward trend for the last four years. This contest should be no different. It will be a good measuring stick for both teams. SFA has given up their postseason for this year, so I fully expect another purple team to be representing the Southland in the NCAA’s. Sam is always fool’s gold. Our frontcourt is our real strength. We will probably win the inside battle, but by how much will be the key factor in this one. Our weakness has been guard defense. If your outside shooters can get hot while keeping our bigs from dominating, then ACU will have the advantage. I fully expect being a home game for y’all that it will be very tough sledding for us. It’s our only Quad 2 matchup of the year. Really looking forward to this one, and thanks for running a good board. Was just looking at the SLC stats and one blew me away - SFA leading conference in FG% at .535 (ACU 7th at .448). ACU leads in defensive FG% at .385 (SFA 10th at .470). Our bigs (Pleasant, Kohl, Simmons) are prone to foul trouble so they need to stay on the floor. Should be a good game - wish more students could attend and make it a real college hoops atmosphere. www.southland.org/stats.aspx?path=mbball&year=2020

So nice of you to drop by nacluth, you are always welcome in my opinion. I actually visit your board at SFA and enjoy it as well. No doubt SFA, SHSU, and ACU are the class of the old Southland. I hope the upcoming game is a memorable one and no matter the outcome, the great rivalry we share is something to treasure.

Purple Haze says our big men are prone to foul. Absolutely not true. Kohl averaging 1.1 per game. Pleasant and Gayman less than 2 per game. Simmons just barely over 2 per game. Joe subs so often we keep individual fouls manageable.

So far this game isn't disappointing. SFA is slightly out rebounding us, but we keep fighting. We are finally finding a way to get some shots inside as well as out. We need to keep SFA from getting a run going.

Watching on ESPN+ and it looks like a lot of fans - what are the attendance rules this year?

As far as the refs go in this one, I'm not sure you can take a charge. 10 minutes to go in the half and both teams in the bonus.
Edit: and we should find out about both teams overall depth. My other observation is that SFA looks a little more turnover prone than I would expect. They are averaging 15.8 TOs a game. Many have been unforced tonight.

Luckily not right now Medic. Kohl starting to struggle inside but balancing it out with his drawing fouls and making his FTs. If we can improve our rebounding we could get some 2nd and 3rd shots to help our offense a little. So far our defense is keeping us on top. The 2nd half will be interesting. I agree with JCat that both of our depth's will be tested tonight by the time it's all over.

I’m glad we finally started pounding inside. Gotta stick with it in the second half and hope we then finally hit some timely 3s. Defense has been good, very active. Just hurts at times when we have to play help defense with a guard 8 inches shorter than their posts and wings. Need to crash the boards better but they have an athletic and overall height advantage.
