It has been a very good 1st half. We aren't backing down and seem to be able to match up pretty well. I hope the refs don't determine the game in the 2nd half. Kohl is working hard in the paint. We need to feed him and hit our 3's when open. I think someone else got credit for Cameron's 2 foul shots.

The foul trouble really took SFA out of their regular offense and when they drifted back into a zone, our shooters were able to find comfortable spots. Great work so far with 5 to play. If the Cats can avoid big turnovers and make a few more baskets, this will be a big win.
Edit: That was a spectacular kick and finish to the game. Great experience in closing out a physical opponent.

Great win for y’all. It was always going to come down to a physical game, and the fouls took us out of it. Way to get a big win. See y’all again in March.

That was a great game. SFA will want payback for sure. They fought hard, but we had one of our best games I have seen in a while.

Turnovers and free throw shooting really hurt SFA.

Thanks nacluth. Appreciate your thoughts. I was very happy to see the key factors we needed came together tonight for a nice 20 point win against a fine opponent. The entire team played its key roles well. I said Free Throws would be one of the keys and man oh man did the guys come through. I am continually impressed by our defense and how we answered the call against a scoring machine like SFA. Now I want to see SFA bounce back and take down SHSU and tighten up the conference.

6 players in double figures. Kohl 20 points in 20 minutes. Cameron another good game. Miller is so valuable at point. Free shots, who would have guessed? Sorry so many fouls called but very few seemed to be iffy. SFA plays physical and the Cats didn't back down.

Two chaotic teams is going to lead to a lot of fouls and turnovers and that’s what we saw tonight. We are very fortunate we found this game to be the one we start hitting free throws in. We played great team basketball and took advantage of their frustrations and didn’t back down when they had a few short runs. The way the refs called the game was tight, and I understand why they would suggest the refs took them out of the game, but the way we fought to close the last 10 minutes of the second half out was just better team basketball and ball handling.
Cameron was huge and has been a spark since we’ve been down one starter and consistent rotation player. I also liked that we saw a lot of Kohl and Simmons and Gayman and Pleasant combos. I felt getting inside would be the key and it paid off with Kohl looking dominant. It’s also incredible how we can play against bigger and stronger and more athletic competition and still stifle them with hustle and tenacity. Kudos to Miller and Daniels and their bulldog mentality.
All that to say that our game in Nac will be heated. They will want revenge for tonight badly and they have a team that can embarrass you if you aren’t in the right headspace, so hopefully we find ourselves in a good position in the regular season standings for round 2 of this matchup.
Now let’s see Mason healthy and back, free throw % stay improving, Cameron keep giving good minutes with an increased role, and better three point shooting to have a chance at a good showing come conference tournament time.

And reading the SFA board, the refs are 100% responsible for our victory....man, talk about a fan base that does not like to lose

That was no factor. We did play a great game despite the calls. Thing is, we better have an even BETTER game in the Piney Woods.

That was a hard-fought game and I'll take a W anytime. Rematch at their place should be as intense as they come. I don't read other boards but I understand their fans' frustration.

I completely agree. ACU showed great poise and the ability to adjust to the officiating. I thought Kohl really stood out, not only for being a focal point in the offense (0 TOs), but for his ability to contest shots without pushing, reaching, or grabbing (only 1 PF). Once the Cats stopped turning the ball over (zero in the final 13 minutes) and found a way to generate some offense (2 second chance points in the first half, 15 in the second) we pulled away.
