I saw the game listed on ESPN+ on the ACU Facebook post about the game today or yesterday. Thanks, finally saw it as it linked to the Athletics page story. Still don't know why the same website's schedule still doesn't have it listed when the other games are listed as ESPN+ or WAC.

This game seems winnable to me. I believe one of the strengths the Wildcats have exhibited this year is stopping g the run. On the surface, it looks like it would benefit us to play an option team with a young offensive line. The issues I am concerned about is that playing the option is different than just playing a team that runs more than passes. The defense needs to stay disciplined and each player needs to keep their assignments. (That’s my non-expert opinion.) I feel like we can do that. However, if a few mistakes are made than can change the game quickly. Lamar won the game against NoCo with their only TD in regulation was a 66 yard run by a receiver, so one play can make a difference. Their coaches know their system well and seem to be good motivators.
Another issue is that weird things usually happen when ACU plays Lamar. Two years ago, we had an INT calls back at the end of the 1st half because of a holding call, they recovered an onside style kick early in the 4th quarter and we lost by 3. There was also a game in 2014 (I think?) that we had a lead and gave up a couple of 4th and long situations on Lamar’s last drive one of which was converted from a late hit after the play was over. I still compare poor officiating to that call. (I have issues.). Also there is the game the following season when Kade Harrington ran for 3 bills against us.
Another unexpected fact from this matchup is that ACU has not won a game against Lamar since 1970. The more I think about this the less it makes sense. I feel like this is not right, but I can’t find anything to the contrary. Part of the reason is that we didn’t play Lamar during their terrible seasons after joining the Southland, they didn’t field a team for 21 years, and the odd situations listed above.
All that to say, the streak ends Saturday. ACU 27 Lamar 16.

Hoping for a victory, and believing a victory is possible, but worried. We could get homered by officials and we have shown very little discipline or restraint when it comes to committing penalties. I think we will win but I worry our lack of discipline could open the door to a loss. It is an away game, and we don't get much leeway even when at home.

I watched the last two games on ESPN + and was satisfied. There were a lot of options for different games and sports and it took a little time to find the ACU game. This will be my second away game of the year. I haven't been to a home game yet.

I do think that ACU can win this game, but I don't see it as a high-scoring affair. Our defense looked pretty good last week against an offense that had churned out a lot of yards in previous games. It does not appear that Lamar has a particularly good offense this year. Our offense scored a slew of points against an outmanned NAIA team and did okay against a solid D-2 program. How will we do against an FCS team? I pick ACU to win 21-14.

I'd like to watch the game with UTPB again and focus on who played and contributed. Probably won't happen but I think we made some positive strides on several fronts. I still don't understand why we don't use our TE's on some checkdowns. That seems to be an emphasis by this offensive staff (checkdowns) but we don't seem to have a clue on how to use a big, tall TE on 3rd and 10 or so. Turn Lutz, Miles and Caldwell loose on the Lamar D and see what happens.

I've really liked the quickness that Walton brings to the game. I'd like to see him earlier in this game. With the 4 backs that have played we seem to be more solid than we've been in years at RB. I really liked how hard Smith and White ran vs UTPB. Add Dobbins for Lamar and we have lots of weapons ready to go.

I think Dobbins and Walton both have the chance to be very good IF we can keep them here for all four (or five) years.

He is big enough to punish anyone who tries to bring him down.

On ESPN+ I have been clicking on the conference symbols, going one page to the right. There on the far right is the WAC and you can see all kinds of contests. Typically the line below upcoming games has the rebroadcasts. I've watched the UTPB game in person, and the replay twice. We have clearly improved defensively and the LBs are starting to roll. Was glad to see some blitzing and QB sacks and hurries, etc.

Silly season is over. Dorrel says we have a pretty good handle on who we are. rc says we've gotten better defensively and our LB's are on a roll. We're going to run the ball. What other conclusions have come after our 1st 3 ball games that defines who we are?

So far against lower division teams, we have had exceptional running backs. White and Smith and others get yards after contact and Dobbins should be ready to roll Saturday. The key for me is whether our schemes and blocking open up opportunities for this bevy of talent to continue to blast through FCS defenses, now that things are getting to normal type games. I really did like the way the defense opened up more wrinkles last game. One of the LBs told me we were going to mix it up more and it was clear we were more aggressive. We have not yet been really tested in the secondary other than the SMU game which I think must have been some kind of opening day quirk of a team trying to find out who it was. If our defense is the improved version we have seen and our schemes and play calling open up the offense, we just might be a pretty good team, maybe better than we earlier thought.
