I really don't know who was an option to answer that. Probably someone with stronger ties to TX and someone younger, more energetic, and offensive minded. Cause we all know that our all offense teams filled stands but consistently lost in the playoffs. You have to actually make the playoffs to lose in them

I'll say this again, did Texas Tech care about defense? Not really. They wanted to put points on the board. You can only win so many games with an air raid offense. I watched the North Dakota St/E. Tenn. St game on Saturday. What do both of those schools do; run the football. Can they throw it, yep! But they want to hit you in the mouth with the run game. North Dakota State is totally fine running the ball up and down the field and not throwing if they have to. That is what I hope we become. We need to be able to do both and do both well. It starts up front. One thing that really bothered me about this year's team; we would run the ball once with 1 RB and he would immediately come out and a new RB would come in. Why? Why not let him get the hot hand and run it again and again and again. For defense, you need big guys. Bogey said this a lot, we were too small. Will we be a 3-3-5 team? A 3-4-4 team? A 4-3-4 team? All of this will be interesting I believe we will be a 3-3-5 team based on feedback from player interviews.

It may not be what you want to hear, but Tech cared a lot more about offense. Is that KP's fault? He helped send to LBers from Tech to the league, so I think he knows a bit about coaching. Is it a homerun hire? Maybe, maybe not. Will it take time? Yep. Kitten who did you realistically want ACU to hire? I really don't know who was an option to answer that. Probably someone with stronger ties to TX and someone younger, more energetic, and offensive minded. I don't know about you, but KP seems pretty energetic to me and has several connections to Texas, but I get the other criticisms. Something else I have been thinking about is that the best head coaches are not always the best coordinators, and vice versa. Likely wildkitten will read that and react the same way he did to mavsman saying Tech didn't care about defense, but regardless, it is true. It also may be a level issue. He was not great at FBS, but could be great at FCS. I can give you a list of guys who drop a level and become successful.

You have to actually make the playoffs to lose in them Yep, but too many want to go back to the glory days of CT and forget the limits his teams had. Offense is good, it's exciting and fills seats, but it takes more than offense to win games and actually make it through the playoffs. We won more games this year than past and neither offense or defense was stellar. Our defense needed as much help as our offense. My comment wasn't about last year, or necessarily the last coach.

Incarnate Word went out in round 2 this year and I highly doubt any of their fans would call their season a failure.

My guess, base 3-3-5 with a healthy dose of 3-4-4. I don't anticipate seeing a lot of even fronts though.

I think outsider is alluding to a time when we made the playoffs many years in a row, but couldn't get over the hump. Think the Bengals making the playoffs every year, but never winning a game. At some point a playoff appearance isn't enough. I will say, where we sit right now I'll take a winning season let alone a playoff appearance.

My main point here is that I'm unclear as to why most of this board has already anointed him as a great hire. He's not someone that I immediately get excited about like I would have a Riley Dodge or someone similar. There's a just a lot of "may's" and "if's" that we're hoping come true. I also believe that if your opinion changed on him based on his press conference that is silly. He wasn't going to come out and tell you that we're gonna suck and he's not excited to be a HC.

At this point neither praising nor beating KP up. Time will tell. I am mainly just watching as life has a lot else going on right now. Realistically, we won't know anything until after Christmas.

I think Riley Dodge being mentioned also warrants criticism. He has no history coaching a college team and is coaching at his high school alma mater with everything handed to him in regards to resources. Sure he could bring a new style and new energy, but if someone like a Riley dodge was hired as offensive coordinator, would that not wet your whistle? Kittey was just a GA at Tech before his rise, but at least had experience with college kids.

Incarnate Word went out in round 2 this year and I highly doubt any of their fans would call their season a failure. Nope, not a failure, but have more aspirations than round 2... Riley Dodge would not have excited me at all..... He has very limited coaching experience outside of high school and that is an extremely different animal (No recruiting). Especially considering his coaching is at South Lake Carroll where I think any of us could win 12 games a year based on the talent and tradition they have. This would seem like Dorrel, in that he inherited a successful NWSM team and kept the wheels on it. That was a program that already had a solid recruiting base and got their pick of D2 players. Dodge being successful at South Lake does not tell me much.
If somebody is asking me blindly if I wanted a new head coach with 20+ years coaching experience and significant time at FBS schools as a senior coach/coordinator or a guy who has 7 years of total coaching experience with 5 at a couple high school jobs, I would certainly be more excited about the former.

My counterargument is one of those names is a household name in Texas and the other is not.
