A little bit about Clark
Matt Clark enters his second season as an offensive quality control assistant on the Texas Tech staff where he will assist offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie and the Red Raider quarterbacks.
Clark arrived in Lubbock following two seasons as the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at New Mexico Highlands University. The Cowboys averaged 29.3 points and 407.1 yards per game in only his first season directing Highland’s offense. Prior to that, Clark spent two seasons as the run game coordinator and offensive line coach at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. In only his first season, Hutchinson led the Kansas led the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference in rushing behind a back field that featured a future Red Raider in Tre King. Hutchinson, which averaged 201.5 yards per game on the ground during Clark’s first season in 2016, featured five All-KJCCC selections during his tenure and one All-American. Before heading to Hutchinson, Clark was the tight ends coach at the University of Louisiana at Monroe where he worked alongside current Tech offensive line coach Steve Farmer, who was in his final year as the Warhawks’ assistant head coach and offensive coordinator. Clark was also an offensive graduate assistant at Monroe from 2009-11 shortly after ending his playing career. Clark was hired full-time at Monroe following four seasons in various coaching roles at Nicholls State. He oversaw the Colonels’ offensive line and tight ends coach at various points during his tenure, while also serving as the academic and recruiting coordinator. Clark played collegiate at Air Force for one season (2004) before playing his final three years at Western Washington (2005-07).

We are becoming South Texas Tech but that is fine with me. These guys will understand how to recruit to West Texas.

Maybe this is the exciting, high-scoring offense many of us were hoping for.

More on Lee-
Stephen Lee joined the UMHB football coaching staff as offensive coordinator in January of 2016. Lee becomes just the sixth offensive coordinator in the history of Cru football. Lee comes to UMHB after spending the past five years as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II West Texas A&M. Lee spent four years as the Buffs offensive coordinator after serving as the school’s quarterbacks coach in 2011. Lee guided a West Texas A&M offense that set an NCAA Division II record for passing yardage in 2013 and led the nation in passing yardage and passing touchdowns. The Buffs won a Lone Star Conference Championship and earned a pair of NCAA postseason berths during his tenure on the coaching staff. Lee is also familiar with the American Southwest Conference thanks to his five-year stint as an assistant coach at Howard Payne University. Lee coached with the Yellow Jackets from 2000-2005, serving as the program’s recruiting coordinator and splitting his time between defensive ends/defensive tackles and tight ends and running backs. Lee’s first collegiate coaching stop came as offensive line coach at Western New Mexico University from 1999-2000. He has made high school coaching stops at Brenham High School (2005-2011) and Irion County High School (1996-99). Lee was the Co-Offensive Coordinator at Brenham and helped lead the Cubs to five district championships and a 66-13 record during his tenure.
Lee is a 1993 graduate of Angelo State University and played four years as a quarterback and fullback for the Rams. He earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Western New Mexico University. Lee and his wife, Molly, have four children, Jarrett, Jordan, Jacy and Katie. Jarrett was a standout football player at LSU and later signed with the San Diego Chargers of the NFL.

Lee and Colby Carthel coached together at WT. Maybe this will give us more of an advantage against Stephen F. I also wonder if he would bring some former ACU coaches or players that were with him in Belton.
I think this is good hire, surprising, but good.
