Looks like Conference USA will become the stepping stone conference for programs making the move from FCS to FBS. It was never a "power" conference and is becoming less and less of one each year.

www.dratings.com/predictor/ncaa-football-predictions/fcs-playoff-projections/Dratings website predicts ACU will make playoffs as of 11-8-22 1 CS Sacamento 2 S Dakota St 3 Holy Cross 4 N Dakota St 5 Montana St 6 Samford 7 Weber St 8 Incarnate Word SE Missori St Mercer Chattanooga Northwestern Louisiana Idaho NC A&T Delaware ACU Elon Youngstown St Furman St Francis PA Richmond North Dakota William & Mary Davidson Last 4 teams out Montana Fordham Rhode Island Eastern Kentucky Our FCS Playoff Bracket attempts to analyze everything that the selection committee would look at. This includes record, conference record, conference championships, strength of schedules, big wins, RPI and more. Remember, this list is not who we think should make the tournament, but who we think the committee will select to make the tournament. In both the SWAC and MEAC, the conference champions play in the Celebration Bowl. However, teams that are not winners of those conferences are still eligible to make the FCS Playoff. The Ivy League is the only FCS conference that completely sits out of the playoff.

Actually, that huge loss 34-7 by SFA might hurt us if we beat them by a slim margin.

The 365 Sports guys had an interesting call with Cathel starting at 51:34. Carthel thinks that the WAC-ASUN will become a conference that moves to the FBS all together.

I have been hearing this percolating a bit, but don't know whether to buy it or not.surely in the short term it would be a FCS league that could transition to FBS later. That was the original plan for the WAC, I believe.

That would be more of what I would expect although I know a lot of the other schools are pushing for FBS. My question would be how much would the schools be able to come to an agreement and stick to it?

That would be more of what I would expect although I know a lot of the other schools are pushing for FBS. My question would be how much would the schools be able to come to an agreement and stick to it? Good point, Outsider. We have already seen a spate of schools come to an agreement and jump ship in a matter of 2 years or less. The WAC has appeared to be largely impotent at finding additional schools or at keeping the schools who have committed to honoring that commitment. The commissioner change has not helped the situation at all -- it has quite possibly made things worse. As far as ACU looking to make the move to FBS, I guess anything is possible. We have to understand that any move to bolster football or m/w basketball will usually have a deterrent impact on other sports. T&F saw their budget cut this year again - we are still competing reasonably well in D-1 T&F on a budget smaller than many D2 programs. The teams that might not get their budgets cut are golf (huge endowment, plus the largest donor to the school is a golf letterman) and baseball -- Rich McCarty is a terrific fund raiser. Tennis has been waiting to have their courts resurfaced for 5 years and it has been deferred year after year. They are now trying to raise the money necessary to get them resurfaced. Moving to FBS would just worsen this "robbing Peter to pay Paul", but I understand why that might make the most sense for the profile of the university as a whole. As much as I love T&F, I also realize that it does not make one whit of difference to most sports fans -- hurts my feelings, but that is reality.

T&F sure makes a difference when we brag about how many national titles we have in athletics. It is a shame that a program with that kind of history has to run on such a small budget.

IMHO we have ZERO business in being in FBS. How would we be anything but a perpetual doormat?
