They also had $120 million from just 10 donors that basically financed that addition to Amon G. Carter -- not the whole stadium, just the addition. I "covet" that depth of major gift donors!

I have broken the "thou shalt not covet thy competition's stadium" command several times over looking at those photos. I be honest I have also. I keep looking at the Amon G. Carter stadium for TCU. They seem to have very similar design language that would fit on our campus. Lets not confuse FBS with FCS

Overheard while hanging around campus yesterday .....
The science/math/engineering complex is fully funded. Expect an announcement before school starts. As a consequence, there will be a big fund raising push for the stadium corresponding with football season. There is more than $20 million banked. However, $30 million may not build the stadium. (Note: no plans are firm right now. Work goes on with the architect.) Expect a larger goal. And .... very good sources tell me that a big donor is prepared to step in and finish the deal when we get close to the goal.
So break out your check books and say a prayer for a 2017 kickoff.

This is good news. It would be great to have the stadium done by the 2017 season!

Have you guys seen Stony Brook's stadium. Its gorgeous. Built in 2000 at 20M. Capacity 8,100 seated and around 10,000 total. I think this would be perfect for us!

This is what I would like to see: minimum seating of 10,000 fixed, grassy area at one end for students to sit if they don't want to sit in fixed, an attractive visitor side with fixed seating that matches the home side in style (doesn't have to have same amount of seating), state of the art audio-video technologies including scoreboard, adequate restroom and refreshment facilities on both sides of the stadium, superior lighting in and around the stadium, locker room facilities for both teams. The UMHB plan looks great. Luxury boxes are an option (I really enjoy seeing the top administrators' mixing with the crowd and not huddled in their private boxes). If $20 mill will construct such a stadium, get after it.

By the way, I like the band and students on the visitor side where I can see their spirit and hear the band. Makes for a great atmosphere. NWMS configured their seating like that although they needed a larger visitor section.

Stony Brook and UMHB both have really nice stadiums that seem to be within ACU's budget. I love the look of a beautiful field house at one end of the stadium behind the endzone, so I am hoping we can keep that part from the original plan. But I am sure the stadium they build will be great. It would be great to have it built by the 2017 season.

Questions. Have any Catchatters been to the new MHBU facilities? Was the SUB included in the 20 mil. price tag and did they finish within budget? If so, someone needs to confer with Drayton McLane, seems as though he received a big bang for his buck. ACU could follow suit and incorporate something similar to the SUB in conjuction with a field house/athletic facilities in the South end zone. This might get some of those students who otherwise wouldn't step foot in a football stadium interested in what goes on in one on a Saturday.
