Funny that he quotes 3 OLB on the roster. I know Grady, Tarver, Gates, and Solsberry are currently outside backers. Do we know the 3 safeties he mentions returning? D.J. Arnold, Damian Howard, and Quentin Bryant?

This is 54 players which means there aren't a lot of full scholarships to give although some percent are partial, I'm sure.

Two come to mind on defense...Jamar Mack was a CBS signed last year, LB Sam Lawlis transferred from Midwestern St and looks like a player from his high school film.

Mavsman, great list. I would suggest that Sam Lawlis, the MLB transfer from Midwestern who sat out last year might well be in the mix for the fall, particularly with Chris Summers graduating last month (he had one more year of eligibility left due to an medical redshirt, but elected not to use it) and Chuck Oputa not returning to the team this spring. Speaking of Chuck, I would be surprised if he does not stay at ACU and finish his degree. He is very connected on the campus - currently he is the President of the Junior Class. Great kid. There might be a few other walkon types who might fit into the plans - Hayden Smiley (played enough at WR and special teams to letter last season), Tanner Morris (ditto on the defensive line), D.J. Johnson (played in 2-3 games at CB) and even Reese Gwin (RS freshman who made a few traveling teams this season).
Interesting notes from Coach Collums on-line -- more than has been shared prior to signing day in the past. Here are some thoughts on some of KC's remarks:
-When he said that there are only 3 OLB and 3 safeties - three safeties seem pretty straightforward (Quentin Bryant, D.J. Arnold, and Damian Howard). The 3 OLB comment would appear to include Travis Tarver, Lynn Grady and Bryson Gates. Myles Solsberry also played, this year due to some injuries, but mostly on special teams and Gavin Burford redshirted. Both Solsberry and Burford appear to be great candidates for great playing time there. Both Tarver and Grady are seniors this next year.
-Mentions three WR returning - Cedric Gilbert, Cade Stone, and Jace Hudson (the numbers 2-4 leading receivers last year). Also returning is Monte Green-Avery, the #6 receiver last year. What all 4 of them have in common is that will be seniors next year. Chris Lide and Byron Proctor (moving from RB in HS) had better get into the rotation this coming season. Makes the loss of Marcus Ellis all that more painful - he had some potential.
-Have to think that Cody Kelley is the new moniker for Codey Funk. Legal name change? Don't know. I would certainly like to have him back for 2 more seasons. With Melde, King, Baughman and Thigpen playing this next year after redshirting I am very excited about the O-line. And, if Josh Hailey can make the transition to OL, that is a bonus.
-Speaking of O-line -- I saw on Texassports.com that former Abilene HS all-stater Jake McMillon has been moved from D-line to O-line at UT. This guy has a long ACU pedigree - his grandparents went to ACC, his parents went to ACU. He never even looked ACU's direction - committing to UT after his HS sophomore season and sticking with his commitment after Charlie Strong was hired. I still think Jake would look good in purple and white.
-Interesting to read of 2 midterm additions on the DL - I love to see that. Will be interesting to see who they are. The notes even mention that one is from a FBS school and one is from JC. In the list that Mavsman posted above, he also mentioned Devondrick Meadows moving inside and that might well be the case. The guy is big - he could be a beast.
-KC mentions around 15 players added on signing day, but also mentions those 2 midterm additions and the first ever HS midterm guy. I would imagine that those 3 are in addition to his 15 players comment. 18 total falls closer to the best guesses by everyone on this board (most of us guessing 20-22).
-I had been hearing that Will Weathers had already moved to fullback from QB and would seem to be an interesting fit there - a good running HS QB. I heard he came to camp last year around 210, but once it became apparent he was needed at FB, I think he finished the seaspn around 220. I would imagine that the coaches would like to see him around 235-240 and to see him on campus, I imagine he can carry that kind of weight pretty reasonably.
-Weathers brings up the topic of TE/FB at ACU. ACU has tended toward having many of their players practice at both positions (both Noah Cheshier and Jonathan Parker did so last year). Two of the best in recent history for ACU practiced only at one of the positions - Ben Gibbs at TE and Emery Dudensing at FB. Since coming to ACU, Jamie Walker has worked only at TE and he is a good one. I am curious to see if heralded RS freshman Liam Flowers gets reps at both TE and FB - I just want to see him on the field for ACU regardless of position. Josh Hunter got quite a few reps in practice last year at FB - a HS O-lineman who will be much more in the style of Jonathan Parker (who was like another o-lineman wherever he lined up).
I loved getting a few more morsels to chew on in the release from Coach Collums. Only 26 more days until signing day, when we then can turn our attention to talk about spring practice.

Lawlis was recruited and visited ACU before going to MSU. Was offered PWO by TT and Baylor and had multiple offers. Was Honorable Mention 6A All State as a senior in his only year playing defense. Was QB prior to that and had battled injuries from what I understand. Heard he has a good chance to get on the field next year.
Haven't heard to much regarding Jamar Mack but heard he has some wheels

Wasn't sure if mavsman was referring to the ROSTER or TRAVEL SQUAD...assuming roster cause we won't travel 5 QBS and so that's why I dropped a few names I knew off the top of my head.

I thought that last year with a new QB and 3 pretty capable TE's we would throw more to that position. As I watch the pros, TE's are particularly valuable (Witten, Gonzales, Gronkowski, Gates, Olsen, etc.). These guys are thrown to over and over in a game. I don't have the stats in front of me but I'd guess that we threw 3 times or less to TE's (UCA game notwithstanding)per game. In times past when we've had good receivers at TE we've used them lots more than this current staff does. I'm wondering why? When I was in school we had Bill Lockey, slow but made catches. Others like Kirby Jones (2nd team all-America in late 70's). In more current times Gibbs was more than capable, and Walker, Cheshire and Parker were certainly capable but we hardly ever threw to them. Now we have Walker and this Flowers kid (lots of potential I'm told) and are recruiting Mabry out of Florida. Will we use these guys as a weapon or after thought? The development of the TE position as a receiver would take loads of pressure off always having to have lots of wide receivers. Just thinking out loud. Doesn't throwing to a TE over the middle open up outside lanes? Use these big guys as weapons!

Found out of the the transfers-
Dewan Edmonson Jr from UTEP; 6'1 285. He played at Manvel HS. RS Freshmen in 2013 and was on the scout team this season. Had a total of 131 tackles and 8 sacks in his 33 games at Manvel.

So, Tyler Maybry tweeted that Buffalo just offered him. I know recruiting is a cut throat business but I didn't know that it extended to contacting a prospect while on an official visit to another school. Incredible.
