Do any of you locals know anything about Douglas Wilson? Here is what I know-- WR who played at Abilene HS (2014 graduate) and signed with Texas Tech. He left the Red Raiders fb team this past week and is looking for a place to transfer for next year. He's still attending classes at Tech this fall, but could transfer as early as mid-term. He's RS-Freshman who is buried in the depth chart under a new offensive coordinator. I know we are checking him out, but he has also been contacted by TCU, and has friends who play at Hardin Simmons who are encouraging him to go there. Apparently Wilson heard some negative (and false, as far as I know) stuff about ACU's coaches and did not look at us coming out of HS. Update: I told Wilson's dad that with his permission I would pass his son's name along to the ACU coaches since I was virtually certain at least some of the information he was hearing about our coaches (Coach C routinely using foul language to call out players during practices, for example). The dad gave me permission. I messaged Coach Thrash, who is responsible for WR's. He told me he would "check it out." The dad has asked me twice If I passed the information along and if there was interest. I have texted Coach T twice over the past three weeks without any response. Wish he'd tell me SOMETHING I could pass along....not interested, whatever. Just seems odd that WR is our highest priority and the coach for that position would be so slow to follow up. I know they are busy with the season and game prep, but they still maintain a recruiting presence....

Actually, it could be a violation if he said more. Coaches are not all to talk about specific recruits. That is why, even when a player has committed to sign with us, you will NEVER hear them mention the player's name. So, him saying that he will check it out, is about all he can say.

I do wish he would say something to the kid if he can't respond to me so the dad will stop asking me. There's probably an NCAA protocol for contacting a kid who is on scholarship at another school as well, but I assume our coaches are very familiar with how to approach this since we have recruited a number of kids who leave FBS schools.

This is just a guess, but I'm thinking it's DeShun Qualls. I'm trying to verify You are correct! I just talked to Dee's dad. And our newest commit had an amazing game tonight, including scoring on a 2-point conversion to win in regulation 74-73. "Jersey Village's DeShun Qualls throws for 579 yards and 6 TD's and runs for 154 yards and 4 TD's" 10 individual touchdowns in one game ties Dee Qualls for 2nd in most individual touchdowns in a game in Texas High School football history. He committed to ACU just before the game.

If we are gonna say recruiting needs to improve, I'd have to think this is a solid start to have two verbal commits from guys with FBS offers that are having incredible senior seasons. Now if we can just make sure they stick with us through February.

Great numbers but at 5'11" I'd suppose he will be a receiver at ACU. 4.31 speed on HUDL

I am watching TAMU right now on TV and 5-11 doesn't look to be an impediment to Kyler Murray.

Mavs, thanks for the info - really helpful stuff!
I am not as sure about Funk getting one year back in eligibility as some on the board appear to be. The NCAA can be a real pain about eligibility. It would be really wonderful to have him back in 2016, but it is not a given, by any stretch of the imagination.

I debated whether to start a new thread on this, but thought I would just tag it onto the existing 2016 signing thread.
This coming week, the early signing period begins for every sport except football. It will last 1 week, Nov 11-18. Last year, both the ACU men's and women's basketball teams closed out a majority of their signing during the early period. In fact, I hold out to you that Hayden Howell had such a great senior year that ACU might have lost him if we had to wait to the main signing period in mid-April.
I know that track and field is talking to quite a few early signing prospects, but I expect to see some of them be mid-term additions, mostly JC transfers. A JC transfer cannot be eligible at a D-I school until they have gotten their Associates degree and there are many who stay over for another semester trying to get the AA and go to a D-I school.

I read on twitter on the Texas Track and Field Coaches Assoc (TTFCA) twitter feed that Abby Gray signed with Arkansas. Getting her was a LONG-SHOT for ACU, but her brother is an ACU student and her Father really likes ACU. Arkansas apparently offered her a pretty substantial scholarship (more than 50%, maybe as large as 75%) and the Razorback women are ranked #1 in the South Central region in XC. Still, it would be nice to slip in and steal her away.
