I see from Coach Thrash that we have 2 wide receivers on campus today. On another recruiting front, saw an article today on Clemson recruiting. They employ 3 full time persons and 20 student assistants in their recruiting department with one responsibility (of many, I suppose): to monitor and respond to potential recruits on social media. To my knowledge we don't even have recruiting coordinator.

However, for recruits to be able to talk directly with the position coach, OC, or even coach Collums, it is much better than some student assistant who responds on social media. Plus, we don't exactly have the budget that Clemson has.

Coach Thrash just tweeted this- Got some big time guys coming to campus today!!! 2 guys that will add to the #WRU tradition!!! Can't wait to hangout with them #ACURISE. I hope to have names later today I know Deshun Qualls will be there. He is a QB from Jersey Village but recruited to play WR and has verbally committed to ACU.

Coach Thrash just started following Omar Manning. Shortly thereafter we learn big time WR's are visiting today. Coincidence? I think not. Who needs TCU when you can go to ACU? Omar, come on down.

Yes, I understand all that. My point was that big time schools pay attention to the details. 99% of HS athletes are on social media and it makes a difference to be in constant contact. Recruits at Clemson will meet and talk to position coaches as well. Is E4C just a catchy slogan or are we really striving for excellence? A lot of things we could do cost little or no money. Just sayin'!! Oh well it would be great to get an "Omar Manning."

Well, Omar Manning plays at Lancaster, who has a state quarterfinal game at AT&T Stadium tonight. So, I highly doubt Manning is one of the WRs who will be on campus today. Also, Manning is class of 2017, so there is a whole lot that will go on for him on the recruiting front in the next year. He would be a great addition, but that is to worry about next year.

Even trying to compare them and their recruiting is like comparing apples and oranges. All of the FCS schools we dealt with were very similar to ACU in their recruiting techniques and resources, but ACU stood out. I know that in our case the ACU coaches did a great job of differentiating themselves from other schools in many different ways. I can assure you that these ACU coaches, who leave their families for several weeks to hit the recruiting trail, do an excellent job of recruiting. They do MANY things that "cost little or no money" to make recruits feel special and wanted.

That's good to hear. Maybe what we do and how we do it, IS a difference maker. 8 1/2 more months until AFA. Can't wait.

I text his dad regularly, and so I know he is one of the WR that will be there today. Not to be a kill joy, but wasn't there a recent ruling about "Boosters" communicating with recruits and potentially costing them eligibility. I thought that the definition of boosters was interpreted to include people that participate on message boards. Do you remember the Oscar? I thought we were discussing it a while back when the idea came up that we should start to send twitter messages to potential recruits.
If there is a recruit, you might be careful communicating with his dad.
I readily admit that I don't know the rule, just know enough to know that there is some kind of rule that we have to be careful of.

The film looks pretty good. A quick look at a HS article shows that he was 6-1, 200 in his HS senior year and he is listed now at 6-2, 243. He played WR in HS and seems on the HUDL film to catch the ball well. He also appears to have a mean streak, which if harnessed, is a good thing to have.

Kind of found what I remembered being the issue. From a different school's website but I assume it is correct as it is warning their fans. www.smcgaels.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=1498142(2) Boosters participating on a message board are not permitted to write, call or e-mail a recruit. Sometimes we will read on a message board that someone thinks it is okay to contact a prospect once they sign a National Letter of Intent with Saint Mary's. However, that signing does not change the fact he or she is still a prospect and all prohibitions against booster contact continue to apply. We often also hear comments that because a person is not a graduate of Saint Mary's or a season ticket holder, they believe they are not a booster and it is okay for them to contact a prospect. However, part of the NCAA's definition of a booster includes anyone who contacts a recruit on behalf of the institution. Therefore, as soon as someone on a message board e-mails or sends a message out to a recruit, they automatically become a booster and are subject to the NCAA rules prohibiting such contact. So just saying to be careful Catmaster, I know that they interpret communications with the parent as communicating with the athlete itself. There is also a paragraph that the restriction is not lifted until the student actually enrolls in class. Even if they have signed a nationally binding letter of intent, we are still not allowed to contact until class starts. EDIT - Nothing but love for you Catmaster and my sincere apologies if this message sounds negative. I was just trying to remind the fellow Cat Chatters that there are rules on reaching out to recruits. For the record I think this is about the most asinine rule possible. There is no way that something that I do on my own time should potentially hurt my schools. For example if we all were to start chatting on Sam Houston's message board and then start publicly reaching out to a whole bunch of recruits on Sam's behalf, would we be considered boosters of SHSU, could you actually artificially create an NCAA violation for a rival school.... (Now that I think about it, if you see WildKat0075 recruiting for Sam don't ask me a thing about it.....
