That's good to hear. Maybe what we do and how we do it, IS a difference maker. 8 1/2 more months until AFA. Can't wait. And we can scout AF tonight against SD S.

If we can't figure out that DE'S don't crash inside every play then we can scout AFA from here to eternity and not make a difference.

Donnell Dunn just committed. Someone said he already had 5 offers front D1 schools. May be a find.

Yes, I understand all that. My point was that big time schools pay attention to the details. 99% of HS athletes are on social media and it makes a difference to be in constant contact. Recruits at Clemson will meet and talk to position coaches as well. Is E4C just a catchy slogan or are we really striving for excellence? A lot of things we could do cost little or no money. Just sayin'!! Oh well it would be great to get an "Omar Manning." Having recently gone through the process, FBS and FCS are just completely different animals. Even trying to compare them and their recruiting is like comparing apples and oranges. All of the FCS schools we dealt with were very similar to ACU in their recruiting techniques and resources, but ACU stood out. I know that in our case the ACU coaches did a great job of differentiating themselves from other schools in many different ways. I can assure you that these ACU coaches, who leave their families for several weeks to hit the recruiting trail, do an excellent job of recruiting. They do MANY things that "cost little or no money" to make recruits feel special and wanted. Just to underscore your point. Bogey mentioned Clemson. They have an athletic budget of 75 million. Clemson is no where near the top schools in FBS. Number one Oregon is pushing 200 million in revenue. Clemson is 39th out of the 60 or so schools in Power 5 FBS conferences. Clemson and other P5 schools have support staff out the kazoo because they can afford it. NCAA rules only permit 9 full time coaches per FBS team. Big schools have assistants to the position coaches who screen prospects by watching film and grading recruits based on criteria provided them by coaching staff. Coaches can then recruit from a refined list provided them by support staff. FCS coaches do it all themselves because they aren't rolling in cash. The top schools in the Southland Conference have revenue of around 16 million. Most can't afford support staff, and our position coaches are paid less than a good high school coach. Even FCS head coaches make less than an average position coach at a P5 school. 200k is a rare salary for an FCS coach. A decent position coach makes more than that and top coordinators can make over a million. Very different animals. CatMaster, it seems to me that ACU's approach to recruiting differs from many of our peers, who offer a lot a kids in the hope some select their school. Once they have the guy they want, they withdraw offers to others ACU seems to be more judicious in its offers, and offers often come later in the process than at many schools. I know Kalin Sadler didn't get an offer till very late last year, even though he had camped here and taken his OV early. Sadler had already accepted an offer from Northern Iowa before ACU came through. That's just one example but it illustrates what I have observed over the past couple of years. We make fewer offers but hope to convert a higher percentage of offers to commits and commits to signees. And once we make an offer, we tend to stick with it.

With H. Sims graduating (used up eligibility) how many 4 and 5 star players do we have on the roster? Can't remember if we have any receivers that were rated that highly or not. Donnell Dunn is rated a 3 star by 247 and was offered by TT, Cincinnati, Arkansas, UNLV, Kansas, North Texas, Fresno St and maybe others. He went to football camps at Texas and Baylor and Texas had started showing interest. I hope we can keep him and that his potential is unleashed by the Wildcats.

QB Luke Anthony tweeted out about having a good weekend with the three offensive playmakers we have commitments from thus far. From what it appears QB Anthony, RB Clayburn, and WR's Qualls and Dunn are our top targets and the four of them got a weekend devoted to just them.
Unless someone with inside info is aware of other recruits in this past weekend.

And for what it's worth, as many harsh words have been suggested about the coaching staff, to get players that are sought-after and highly regarded to commit to the program coming off the 3 win season we just had is impressive.

Good point. If those four sign in Feb, we will have a monster class before anyone else is recruited.

Jowell Aponte was part of the ACU weekend in Houston. He is a TE/DE from Cypress Creek. HUDL shows he is just a junior. His mother tweeted good things about ACU to AD DeLeon. 6'1" 220 lbs.

You could probably count on one hand, maybe 2, the number of 4 or 5 star guys in the Southland Conference. We don't have any one on our roster that was rated that highly. Quite a few 3 star guys, but no one higher.

I took the liberty of editing your post to move Donnell Dunn to the list of commits I also made it a sticky to make it easier to keep up with 2016 recruiting. Keep up the good work.
That's 3 high quality new commits, plus 2 who committed two years ago before leaving to complete a 2 year mission for the Mormon church.
2 WR 1 RB 1 OL 1 DT
I don't know how many we will sign in total but I imagine about 15? That's puts us 1/3rd of the way there before the December dead period for recruiting begins. That's ahead of where we were last year at this time.

I love reading this article about Donell Dunn - terrific tribute to him and to ACU for finding him and recruiting a kid who appears to fit our mold so well.
Oscar, I have been wondering if ACU does not need to take more than 15 athletes this year to attempt to get to the 63 scholarship threshold by 2017. However, looking at the numbers -- we had 50-53 scholarships this year and we have 10-12 scholarship athletes finishing eligibility, I can see that the signing class could be well be around 15 and no more than 18, although we do not know which current scholarship recipients may be axed due to non-performance in the classroom.
