I love reading this article about Donell Dunn - terrific tribute to him and to ACU for finding him and recruiting a kid who appears to fit our mold so well. Oscar, I have been wondering if ACU does not need to take more than 15 athletes this year to attempt to get to the 63 scholarship threshold by 2017. However, looking at the numbers -- we had 50-53 scholarships this year and we have 10-12 scholarship athletes finishing eligibility, I can see that the signing class could be well be around 15 and no more than 18, although we do not know which current scholarship recipients may be axed due to non-performance in the classroom. The other variable unknown to me is the breakdown of full and partial scholarships on our current roster. whatever the number the commits who have announced thus far are all in demand by other schools with lots of FBS and FCC offers to choose from. Pretty amazing that we are doing so well coming off a disappointing season.

I also wonder if any walk-ons may have earned scholarships. We had at least 2 or 3 walk-ons with significant playing time this year... maybe they will be rewarded with scholarships.

Very true Catmasters - I can imagine a kid like Mitchell Cantwell not getting scholarship help. He has certainly played his way into the conversation.

A David Harvey and Jordan Veasley commit would make for quite the class of offensive weapons.

A David Harvey and Jordan Veasley commit would make for quite the class of offensive weapons. yup. I love the way our skill position recruiting is shaping up. I am surprised to see only one DE on the list of high priority targets and he has not expressed a lot of interest in coming to Abilene. seems like that's a spot where we need some immediate help/depth.

Last year there were several recruits who were not on OUR radar who signed as well as several who either walked on or came in late. Maybe that's where the "big guys" will come from this year. On our list of committed, offers, and interest there is not a single OL or DL name. Surely we have a big guy or 2 on our radar.

They have been committed to us for two years, but will be part of this signing class. Still....looks like we would be after a couple more DE's and maybe one more OL.

Another look at Donell Dunn. www.studentsports.com/football/2015/03/18/opening-dallas-testing-results/This is a compilation of OFFICIAL The Opening Dallas Testing Results (a Nike football camp held in Dallas) from March of 2015. There were 338 total of the best athletes from TX, OK and LA (maybe others). 63 total WRs. Dunn's electronic timed 40 was 4.51, which is blazing fast for a HS kid. This time was 3rd for all WRs and 7th overall. His vertical jump was 35.2, again incredible for a HS kid. This was 9th of all WRs and 33rd overall. His short shuttle was "only" 4.38. This was bottom 3rd for WRs and middle of the pack overall. NIKE has a "Nike Football Rating" based on Ht/Wt, speed/quickness metrics, and strength. I don't know the details, but it's similar to the NFL's SPARQ rating. At this camp, Dunn was the 12 rated WR and 47th overall. Needless to say, this is a HUGE get for us. I haven't watched his film yet, but I will. I did watch Qualls and if Dunn is a better athlete than Qualls, we are in for a real treat over the next 4-5 years. These guys could be special.

I watched several of Dunn's highlight videos. His speed is really deceptive. Sometimes looks like he is really slow until you see him pulling away from folks. Then I watched Qualls--wow--quick moves and speed.

Coach Moore was in Houston yesterday to see DE/DT/OT Mammaluaiaga (MJ) Tupolo. Try saying that name 10 times fast!!!! Tupolo plays at Cy Springs and is a teammate with Donnell Dunn. Though it is likely he will play DT in college, he looked best at OT imo.
On another note, Coach Thrash tweeted this out this morning: Fired up I get to see my H-Town boys tonight!!!! They are gonna be something fierce next year!!! #ACURISE #WRU. Interesting that he is going back after they were just here.
David Harvey committed to Liberty University last night.
One more nugget- QB DaVante Kinkade will be transferring from the University of Ole Miss. Kinkade will be a redshirt Jr next year. In his tweet, he stated that he wanted to get back to Texas. A couple of our coaches have started to follow him. Likely means nothing, but is something to watch for sure.
