If anyone thinks ACU is going to toss chump change out into the prospective pool of coaches, they would be wrong. The powers that be (big money donors) didn't dump 50 mil into the new crib to lease it to the AISD for a dollar a year or to velcro a few plastic flags on on our guys and have them play intramural flag football next season. I agree. It would be a waste of everyone's time talking with the guys we are meeting with if we weren't prepared to ante up.

Newguy, you make some valid points. BUT, those opportunities have ALWAYS been a part of the ACU culture. Opposing coaches have used chapel attendance against ACU in recruiting since 1919, when ACC/ACU first fielded a football team. The academic standards for ACU are very closely aligned with the standards for D-I and much higher than D-II, a major reason why ACU moved back to D-I in 2013. Those academic standards are far less a detriment than they were when ACU was at the D-II level.
The financial challenges have ALWAYS been a major consideration at ACU in hiring coaches, recruiting budgets, etc. In 1937, ACC lost J. Eddie Weems, ACU's first great track coach, to TCU, which doubled his salary. (Weems would return to ACC as a teacher after he retired from TCU). Tonto Coleman left ACC in 1950 to become an assistant at Florida and then at Georgia Tech -- eventually becoming the Commissioner of the Southeast Conference. He tripled his pay leaving ACC for Florida. I can give you example after example of the challenge ACU has ALWAYS had in providing competitive salaries. However, even in the face of challenges and opportunities, ACU has managed to remain competitive in every sport. That has not changed and I don't think it will EVER change - even when some sports face long droughts of mediocrity.
Now, the obvious remedy to all athletic budget woes at ACU is the continued building of athletic operational endowment. $250 million in endowment would guarantee that ACU could operate at a competitive level in all sports for all time. If anyone is interested in stepping up for that amount, please PM me! HA!!!

I think some of the costs we are talking about will be recouped in years to come from some of these FBS teams we will be scheduled against. I believe we have two FBS teams on the schedule next year, not sure of the exact figures we will make playing NM and CSU though.

Also, we will be recieving shared revenue from the SLC next year. Who knows how much revenue nike is giving us too. I think we just got a discount on Nike gear. There may be revenue from the profit margin on goods sold, but that is probably less than what we pay to supply the athletic teams. The more I think about it, the Nike deal was a bad deal. I would be ok with Russell if it brought revenue.

Basically ACU will get a small amount of money each year and anything else they want is at a discount. That's pretty par for the corse at the FCS level. It's not until you get to the FBS level where apparel deals are worth millions of dollars that schools generate any money.

ACU is already receiving revenue from the SLC but it is only about 20K per year. You don't start receiving NCAA funding until you've been a full member of D-1 for a year so, not until 2018. Nike deal is a discount and an allotted amount guaranteed, but when you divide it up among all sports is does not cover what is needed on a yearly basis.

Found this interesting...Sioux Falls coach headed to Lindenwood University. Still not sure how his name ended up on this board unless it was known he was leaving Sioux Falls. Also not sure why he would be leaving a team that was so successful to head to a D2 team that's not successful.
Also...
Missouri Western (D-II): Sources tell FootballScoop that Matt Williamson will be the new head coach at MO West. Williamson, a former All-American at MO West, served as defensive coordinator at Stephen F. Austin the past three seasons and at Central Arkansas and Missouri Western prior to that.

The coach hasn't even been named and we are asking these kinds of questions.

The Optimist article quotes DeLeon as saying he will look at four criteria"
1 A strong Christain 2. Structure and discipline 3. Excellent recruiting skills 4. "Most likely," someone with Texas ties.
It was in the ACU Optimist
