RB Jacob Urbanczyk from Highland Park in Dallas will play football for us next year. Do we know anything about this guy? I am assuming he is a walk on at this point. His hudle page is interesting, says he runs a 4.47 40, which is quick for a RB. Based on his stats he needs to work on his upper body, says he benches 245 but squats 425. I don't recall seeing a gap that wide before. I believe the 245, but a 425 full parallel squat for a 5-11 kid would be exceptional.

He ran for 686 yards and 10 TDs last season. He's an interesting developmental player who could contribute 2 or 3 years down the road.

Well that is disappointing.... after waiting like three years they are not going to show up..... 1) How serious were they about coming here? I see they were committed, so other than change of heart is it #2? 2) Is this a planned temporary move till grades get up?

We MUST remember, these guys were recruited by the old regime. Highly unlikely they end up at ACU

Recruited by the old staff, and remember it is been 3 years since they were first recruited while they were still in high school. They have been in foreign countries completing mission work and maturing from 18 year old boys to 21 year old men whose priorities may well have shifted. Besides, do we even know if this staff even recruited/contacted them?

Agree with both the old regime and possible lack of contact from new regime comments. Yes they were in HS. Yes they spent two years in missions. Especially the missions part makes my questions even more pressing to me. 1) Missions minded kids should really be committed to things and hopefully would have chosen ACU for that, even with different coaching staff. 2) I would think AD really wants mission minded kids who are big and committed to us. So again, what happened on each side in those two years? I guess BYU doesn't have to deal with these issues...

BYU typically asks their recruits to spend a year in the program BEFORE going on their mission and they schedule the beginning point of the mission to coincide with the academic calendar so they spend two years away and return in time for fall practice. My information is 10 years old but that's the way the Y used to do it. I assume they still do.

I know we don't do it enough for that and the church backgrounds are different. It just makes me wonder what happened in that two years, they just fell through the cracks or what???

I sure hope the entire coaching staff is attending some HS playoff games, especially since ACU is hosting some on campus. I'm almost positive I saw an ACU coach at a game I attended this weekend but, unfortunately, I think it was Coach Golding (or his doppleganger).

Just for kicks I went back and watched the highlight videos of the three remaining OL from this class, Parmelly, Byrd, and Gunnoe. When watching them together Parmelly was so far ahead of those other two, it’s no wonder he played. I saw a lot of flaws with the other two. In fact, they don’t look all that good. Byrd has trouble getting down in a stance unless he’s run blocking and leaning heavily on his hand. It’s so obvious whether the team is running or passing if you look at him. I assume that’s corrected by now. It wasn’t all bad, thoug. He did some good things, but he looked stiff. Gunnoe on the other hand was a little more flexible but looked unathletic, even for a lineman. Gunnoe is meaner and thicker.
One trait that most people overlook that is ALMOST a requirement for all positions (some players can get away without it) is flexibility. If you can’t bend, squat, or turn your hips, you are probably going to get beat by someone who can. So when I see a stiff player at any position, it’s hard to project a ton of improvement.

No one seems to mention Kage Hendrix anymore, is he not around anymore? I had hope for him.

Jackson Pace, who signed with the 2017 recruiting class then left before classes started that fall is now playing at Arkansas. Probably a walk on but participated in spring ball with them. He's listed as a redshirt freshman on their 2018 roster. (yes, they actually have a 2018 roster) Just found this interesting.
