My understanding was UTPB as mentioned before, is now a good Div.2 team, and due to the less stringent requirements in this division, it is not unusual for a Div. 2 to beat a FCS. I recall us doing it to Southwest Texas, now Texas State a couple of times. Interestingly, they stopped scheduling us after that. Going against bigger lines on both sides of the field may have explained the holding penalties. The game should have been a good learning experience for our team, more than the previous two games. I will be curious as to whether our technique and line play improves next week at Lamar. I look forward to the wonderful aroma of that place if I am able to make it. Speaking of Texas St I watched the last quarter of their loss to UIW. UIW is impressive. I’m glad we don’t have them this year, they’d have a chance to hang half a hundred on us. And, if they could get some more of Tom’s $ outta Gayle, they’d be a great sixth FCS-qualifying WAC member.

Their football team, yes. Every other sport…not so much.

RC, we didn't elect to receive it into the wind. UTPB won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. We then decided we wanted the ball, which gave UTPB the option to decide which direction to kick from.
Second, we had our hands team out on the kickoff. They had both of their kickers out there #31 and #41. I agree that it looked like the ball was going to the right, but #31 their main kicker was lined up to kick to the left, so we overloaded that side. As Jamin said, Dorrel was wise about calling timeout. After the timeout, we lined up with 8 guys on the line, and 1 one behind each side and the Holman deep. #41 made a terrible kick and squibbed it straight to Holman.

The absolute highlight of the game for me happened BEFORE the game when Sema'J came out on the field and did the coin toss. He was moving slowly, but it was not too many months ago that it did not look like he would survive the night. Sema'J even did a little dance step as he left the field -- it was a glorious moment. I continue to pray God's blessings on this good man and his family -- maybe even more now that the hard work of rehab happens out of sight from all by a few.

And I thought having Shemar with Sema'J as an honorary captain showed a ton of class. Dr. Schubert entertained the Davis family in the president's box as well.

Hey Toothdoc. How was the Mutton Busting? It was...... Uh. Great! The kid who won it got a record 94 points. Levi my oldest got 80 pts. The younger got 58 pts. And a mouth full of wool. Lol. Thanks for asking. I could have probably stayed till after the 3rd quarter at the game, but did stream it to my phone. Fun times. Good to see you and Phyllis again!

Stapp and Roland Williams should be solid on the outside, as long as we have some improved safety play to manage the middle and eliminate mental errors. Tory Hargrove I like at LB. I’d like to see Brannon more. Not sure about Chike and the transfer from Northern Colorado, Adams. DL was solid and we saw lots of Bradley and Eades. Is Damion Hart not a rotation option? Warkinton not up to speed? Either way we have depth.
Same story since season one and Dallas Sealey…no downfield presence in the passing game. Was hoping Spadone and Neece would be big enough that we would try and throw downfield but seems like it will never be in the mix under this staff. Just lots of short crossing routes and weird misdirection handoffs out of the gun. Our WR bubble screen passes will not work in FCS play, not fast enough I don’t think.

At least they played much better than the debacle with Angelo State last year. They beat a team that they should win against.

Their football team, yes. Every other sport…not so much. Sadly, they still have high school facilities. I haven’t watched the win over Texas St., but they must have an impressive team - Texas St. was in the ballgame vs. Baylor.

I think you mean sub-high school facilities. Have you seen the new stadiums being built in the suburbs of DFW and Houston? 😀

We have a long way to go, but did show that we can still take care of business. The issues I saw during the UTPB game can be fixed. Will they? We haven't turned a corner yet, but we showed hope.

Yes, thus the reference to “Gayle’s $”, as in Gayle Benson, widow of Tom and, therefore, owner of the New Orleans Saints as well as a few car dealerships. They’re in D-1 because Benson $ and I believe they’ll continue to help with facilities.

I’m curious to know if we think that we are better and played better compared to the Angelo game last year, OR, is UTPB really not as good of a D2 team as suggested. I think they had some guys that could play, but clearly we had a better outcome than last year’s LSC matchup.
