The Islanders have a solid basketball team that should have been in the Southland Conference Finals. They have some really good shooters on that team. I think the question is, why are we playing?

No, you misunderstood. Why don't we just let this season die? It's over. We can't make 15-17 go away. If we lose to CC it just gets worse. If we win, we get to play Tarleton again. Big Woop! Why don't we use the time to recruit or do something productive.

Put ourselves in Tanner's shoes. Look at how the team finished the regular-season. How well they played vs. SFA. Now you're given a chance to play (I believe) at least two extra games vs. regional opposition with your youngsters. If the players want to be there, have excitement about extending the season, then let them play.
For the rest of us who are over it, hey, we don't have to watch.

If Mo and JV and Leo get serious minutes, then I get it.

You play to win the games.

You play because they after we played in the CTI in 2018 we: • Won a school-record 27 games and made the program’s first-ever trip to the NCAATournament. • The Wildcats also set a school-record for the most conference wins with 14.
You play because: • You can tell recruits we can play beyond the regular season. • If you win two games, you finish the season at .500 instead of at a losing record, including wins over two regional schools (which helps with recruiting). • If you won in the past, the regional winners met in semifinals and in a championship game (not sure if that is happening this year...haven't seen a full bracket, so it might not be).
You cheer the team on because: • They are our Wildcats. • This is your University. • That's what true fans do!

I kind of understand this but “You can tell recruits you play beyond the regular season” is what really got me. Recruits don’t care about some third-tier post season tournament with 16 mid majors who also had disappointing seasons. Recruits want to play in the Big Dance against the Blue Bloods to prove something. I get wanting to keep the guys fresh and finish on a high note, but that’s what the NIT is for, not the CIT. It is okay to reflect on the season and have a chance to start recruiting. Tired of participation trophies, if we want to make a name for the school, NCAA tournament or bust should be the message we are sending recruits.

It would be neat if we won four more games!!! Maybe low odds but watching practice this afternoon, the guys looked hyped. We have two really strong freshmen coming next year and supposedly a stronger post. Personally I think the more you play the better you can be, but if we just poof off the next two, then I agree we are wasting time. On the other hand, beating Tarleton would be a nice redemption.

Where did you get the info that we "supposedly have a stronger post" coming in?

Just talking with some guys who were watching practice this afternoon. No way to tell how reliable the info was. I asked an assistant coach about the two signees and then asked if we had a big man coming in. He "seemed" to hint we might but did not answer in any detail. I guess it is wait and see.

It is okay to reflect on the season and have a chance to start recruiting. Tired of participation trophies, if we want to make a name for the school, NCAA tournament or bust should be the message we are sending recruits. Of course you WANT to play in the big tourney. We didn't have the record for the NIT. In fact, of the mid-major colleges invited, none had losing records. If anyone in our conference would have gone to the NIT, it would have been Tarleton. And ask the players if they are hyped to play postseason. True, we can't take the momentum from this season saying, "We made the postseason." like we did when we knocked off the Longhorns. True, it's not saying the same thing as we are playing the "Blue Bloods." But ask any team, especially the seniors, if they are interested in playing longer and I bet 99 out of 100 would say, "Yes, bring it on!" Has this been the season we all hoped for and longed for? NO! Can we still cheer on our Wildcats and hope for the best! Yes. What if they do go win four games? Saying we won a postseason tournament will be a LOT better than saying we ended our season with a conference tournament loss we should have won. if you want to color my glasses purple, go ahead. I just want what is best for our student-athletes! I want our school to succeed at all levels of academics and athletics. Every sport. Every game. Trust me... I am competitive to the core. I want all of our teams to go undefeated and dominate the world. Always have, always will. But I'll support our teams win, lose or draw because that is what I have done all my life. Constructive criticism is good. I do it myself. But dragging programs and student-athletes and athletics down as has been done on this board is frustrating to read! I won't apologize for standing up for the student-athletes and coaches. Unless you have lived in that environment in the last 10-15 years (and yes, I have on a full-time basis), you can't fully understand it. I have more to say about all that, but I'll just end it here and say: Go Wildcats!

My first reaction to ACU playing in the CTI was closer to Catsfan. But, the more I think about, I tend to lean more to the texas48/mavsman camp. The men's basketball team played much better ball in the last 10 games of the season. Losing to SFA in the tourney was not a huge surprise, we have had trouble with SFA in every sport for years. But, a losing on a last second shot is not an embarrassment. Gambling on getting some wins in a 3rd-tier tourney is a good idea -- to try to build a little win streak here at the end of the season is worth it, if only to honor some of the super-seniors like Airion Simmons. From some of the comments above, it certainly appears that the team members sees these games as having a redemptive quality for the season and these are the same guys who sucked it up and played lights-out down the stretch. Go get some wins, 'Cats!
